XBOX 360 E CONSOLE WON'T DETECT NEW DRIVE

Hi everyone, I have got an issue.

I recently purchased an XBOX360 E Console new, comes with a 4GB internal drive. I would like to add an additional internal drive to expand the storage section. I have an an unused 2.5" 750 GB SATA drive, specifically the WD Scorpio Blue 5400 Series (WD7500BPVT).

I tried using EaseUS Partitioning tool to format and create a partition for the drive, FAT32 set as PRIMARY; but my console simply will not detect the drive at all. I then reformatted the drive multiple times with different settings selected, still nothing.
I then decided to break down the drive into multiple partitions, all FAT32 with some partitioned as LOGICAL, some as PRIMARY, some as 16GB, 50GB, 250GB, 300GB and still nothing detectable through the console.

To add, the drive is 100% operational, no I/O errors, no problems at all. The console has the latest firmware update.

Any suggestions to fix this issue?

    :)

Can't log into XBOX Live due to no wireless adapter.

Ever since I bought my Xbox 360 E console, i never had to use a wireless adapter but now it is asking for one. This happened just now and it won't detect my wireless network. Is there any way to resolve this?

  3. Hard drive NOT working in Xbox 360 Slim E console...

I went to GameStop today and I bought a 320GB hard drive there. I put the hard drive into my nephew's Xbox 360 Slim E Console... and when going thru the System Settings... the hard drive was listed.

So the 250GB hard drive that I bought thru a place on Amazon.com... is on its way back to them.

I did find one thing that I found to be... amusing... online when I looked up info on "Troubleshooting" if the console doesn't detect the hard drive. They told you to do these things...

    1. Turn your console off and then on again.

    2. Make sure that your hard drive is installed correctly by removing and adding your hard drive back again.

    3. If you have another hard drive, try it with your console.

    4. Format your hard drive.

The "amusing" thing is Number 4... how do you get the Xbox 360 to format a hard drive that it doesn't detect??? Doesn't the Xbox have to first detect the hard drive... before it can format it???

    This was found here...

Hi, Xbox internal hard drives have special formatting and boot sectors etc, you can't just slap any old hard drive into the Xbox and expect it to work.

The fact that I have attempted what I have mentioned in my initial statement, I think that makes what you said pretty obvious. Do you have a solution to contribute?

Sure, as this is really a topic that shouldn't be discussed on an official support forum as it would be a breach of the Xbox terms of use for hardware modding etc then another place would be a better option. I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands
    of online tutorials :/

This topic is clearly not a topic about modification, I am not modifying the existing hardware of the console, my question pertains to adding additional storage space to the console that has a limit in available storage, please read properly.
Sure there are tutorials but I have not come across one that specifically pertains to my issue nor a solution hence the initial thread sir.

I'd have to disagree, adding an unofficial unsupported piece of hardware that has been modified/hacked would in my opinion constitute console/hardware hacking/modding but of course that's only my opinion which isn't worth jack XBOX 360 E CONSOLE WON'T DETECT NEW DRIVE :)

Xbox consoles clearly allow for the user to add and upgrade drives, if they did not, there wouldn't be a section to openly remove a plate to remove or add additional drives and it would not be an obvious and advertised feature. To format a hardisk from
one file format to another to allow a device to read it; is NOT considered hacking, cracking or modifying at all, that is not only my professional opinion but a fact. Not even in the same realm
of discussion in regards to modification. However if my topic was a request on how to make my console read pirated discs with games burnt to them, that would entail information about how to modify existing hardware. Then you would be correct. I value all reasonable
opinions sir, I am simply looking for a solution to this small matter not to argue semantics.

Hi, an Xbox internal hardrive has to have a specific boot sector for the Xbox to see it ( that boot sector would contain all the information the Xbox needs to enable it to be used as an internal Xbox hard drive such as drive size, whether it's an official
hard drive etc ) an external hard drive is another matter totally, external drives work differently but some games do require you to have an internal hard drive but that's a whole other subject.

Where we're getting out wires crossed is that in order to have an internal hard drive other than an official hard drive to work you'd have to somehow modify the boot sector of the unofficial hard drive to something the Xbox can see ( for example the Xbox
sees the hard drive and gets the info that it's a hard drive suitable for use as an internal Xbox hard drive yadda yadda )

With that said, if you just put any old regular hard drive into the internal hard drive bay on your Xbox it's just not going to work at all.

  11. They do, but the drive bay is for Internal hard drives made by Microsoft. The Xbox 360 isn't like the PS3 or PS4 where you can install a standard 2.5" SATA hard drive. The Xbox internal drive comes in it's own special proprietary case with I would presume
also includes a small PCB to tell the console that it is an 'Internal' hard drive.

You can use an external hard drive to expand the storage on your Xbox 360 console, and you could use your old WD Scorpio Blue 5400 Series. All you need to do is place this old drive into a 2.5" USB external hard drive enclosure. This will
turn your spare laptop drive into an external hard drive that the Xbox 360 can use.

Some Xbox 360 games do require an internal hard drive though. So just get a second hand one for these, and use the external for everything else.
