Xbox 360 disk drive will not play games

I have not been able to play a disk came on my xbox in over 3 weeks, I have texted with tech support and they couldn't figure it out either! I have the black xbox slim the disk drive is not reading xbox 360 games it says "play game" but when I do it
kicks me back to the dashboard and kicks me off xbox live. I have deleted profile, cleared cache, checked my location to make sure they match, I've done all of these a million times. I have tried 15 disks I can't play any disk games, but I can watch a DVD!
It's not the open tray or the stuck tray it's not any type error either, no I can't play any type game disk offline either no other profiles work with the disk either. No it's not under warranty any more either! I really just want it to play the disk!!

hey guys,

i was given a 1st gen 360, has always had an off and on propblem with the disk drive not wanting to read games..i bought a used disk drive and it now disconnects from xbox live when i try to play disk games. not sure what to do

Disk drive problems

My xbox 360 disk drive will not open. I have tried taking the face plate off and the xbox 360 badge on the disk drive and it still gets stuck. it only gets stuck when there is a game in the console

Sorry to hear it. Unfortunately it seems as though the drive is no longer functioning and means the console will need to be repaired or replaced. You can set this up at the following link

Please note: if you have had 3rd party service done on the console at any time in the past (ie. replacing the drive) then the Xbox service center will send your console back untouched.

Xbox Live disk games haven't been ever been able to play games off of the hard drive after they are installed. The disk must be in the disk drive to play the game. Installing games to the hard drive causes the disk to spin less once it is in the disk drive,
which causes slower loading times and makes the Xbox quieter.

It sounds like there is something wrong with the disk for sure. Have you installing the game to your hard drive?

support.xbox.com/.../install-play-delete-game .... works for me sometimes when I have scratched disk issues.

Walking dead is a disk, when installed I put the disk in the disk tray and the game start (from the hard drive).

When Halo is installed (and the disk in the disk tray), if i launch the game, the game will not launch from the hard drive.

I have a FAT 360 (rodded once), I have to take care of his life span, i need to play from Hard drive.

Any solution??

I've installed the installation disk to my Xbox 360 HDD and running the game from the disk. It's very noisy and apparently the performance is much better if you install the "Play" disk to a USB Flash Drive.

I've just bought a compatible 8GB USB Flash drive and followed the instructions through www.xbox.com/storage. The Xbox 360 says it's compatible with no issues.

Where do I get the option to install the "Play" disk to the USB Flash Drive?

I've tried deleting everything off the HDD and installing again from scratch with no luck. Has anybody already done this and had any luck with it that they could share?

mines has same problem. its the dvd drive dieing, but mines been that way for a year now. do this

1. open disk drive

2. put ur hand on the 360

3. close drive

4. now can u feel the 360 spin the disk(it will vibrate a lil)

5. do this like 5 times....if u feel the disk not spin everytime then its the dvd drive starting to die.

now u can install the game on hard drive like Minster Gwyther said that way the dvd only has to check that the disk is in 360, then it plays game off of hard drive...it does take a while to copy game to hard drive.
