In regards to your methods of getting the disk tray to work and your description about the small "drop" in the tray, I am going to put that down to your family member throwing it on to the floor. Its most likely been dislodged slightly, upon impact. I can
only personally advise a service from the
official xbox service center, in the event that the troubleshooting guide does not fix the problem.



Any tampering or unofficial service will void your warranty and in certain cases, can lead to a console ban.

Simple answer, your hard drive is failing. Fix? Buy a new hard drive or use an external hard drive. The Xbox 360 supports external hard drives up to 2 TB.

Hard drives die and before they do, they generally exhibit, disk read errors, corrupted files none working games. Hard disk drives are mechanical with moving parts, its it not if they fail its a matter of when.

Try other disks as well using your Xbox. It may just be that disk has a scratch on it affecting how's it read. If every disk appears to be doing it then something could be wrong with your Disk Drive.

From my personal experience when you put a disk in your console and it says nothing more than "Open Tray" or "Play DVD" then your disk drive may be shot. Only way to fix the problem is to either send it in to Microsoft to be fixed, or buy a new Xbox.
