Xbox 360 disconnects from Windows 7 PC intermittently

My Xbox 360's (I have three of them) intermittently disconnect from the Windows Media PC. Usually 3-4 minutes in, the screen goes black and a message comes up saying the connection has been lost with a "Reconnect" button. When reconnecting, it works again,
but then disconnects soon after. This just started happening today. My setup has been working for years and this is the first time this has happened on a consistent basis on all three Xbox 360's.

• • I have tried it with firewall turned off and Avast uninstalled.
  • I have disconnected the PC from the Xbox 360 and the 360 from the PC and then reinstalled.
    
  • I have updated every driver I could find.
  • I've added the Xbox 360 User Name to the list of approved Remote Desktop users.
    

NONE WORKED

It isn't just watching TV - when reinstalling, it disconnected while building the library on the Xbox 360. That combined with the fact that it is the same behavior on multiple 360's leads me to believe something new is up with my PC but I'm not sure where
to look.

Is this happening to anyone else and did it just start happening to you? Am trying to figure out where the issue is.

I appreciate your responses! If I have to pay for Comcast boxes and pay for DVR, that will make me very unahappy.

Connect the Xbox 360 to Windows Media Center

NOTE: If you were previously using your Xbox 360 with a Windows Media Center XP Based PC, you will need to remove the existing connection.

To remove an existing xp account

• [1]On the Windows XP Media Center PC
  [2]Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Media Center, and then click Media Center Extender Manager.
  [3]Select your Xbox 360 and click Properties.
  [4]Click Remove.
  [5]Click Yes to confirm removal.

On the Windows Vista or Windows 7 Media Center PC

1. Click Start, Windows Media Center.
2. Select Task, Settings.
3. Select Extender.
4. Select your Xbox 360 Media Center Extender.
5. Select Uninstall.

On Xbox 360

1. On Xbox 360, go to My Xbox and then System Settings, then select Computers.
2. Select Windows Media Center, and then press the A button.
3. Select Disconnect.
4. Press the B button until you return back to the System Settings.

If you didn't have to remove a previous connection start here.

STEP 1

1. Gather Setup Key from Xbox 360
2. Press the Media Center Start button on the remote or go to My Xbox, then select Windows Media Center. Advance through the on-screen instructions to obtain the 8-digit Media Center Setup Key. Write this key down.

STEP 2
Add Extender

1. At the Windows Vista or Windows 7 Media Center PC, launch Windows Media Center. Select Start, Windows Media Center.
2. Select Tasks, Add Extender.
3. When prompted, provide the 8-digit setup key you received from your Xbox 360.
4. Complete the Extender setup.

Could you please provide us with more details. What are you using, Windows 8 PC, Windows 7 PC, Windows Phone, Xbox 360?

 

I too am having this issue. it appears to be related to the December xbox live update. I personally have tried 2 Windows 7 Computers, 2 xbox 360's and multiple sets of cords. I also went the route of updating any and all drivers, software and firmware that
could be affecting it.

A temporary way around it is to put stuff on a flash drive, but that's just a workaround and not a real fix to this issue.

 

I just tried it with and xbox 360 that didn't receive the December update and it still did the same thing. So, tonight will try doing System Restores on PC. I just watched a marathon of football on Sunday and Monday, so something happened on Tuesday or
Wednesday to break it. Too bad if I can't fix it...I've enjoyed this setup for years now. I can't even watch video files or look a pictures stored on PC without it disconnecting.

 

I'm experiencing the same issue with two different Xbox 360s that I tried - one with the latest patch applied, the other without. So it does not seem to be directly caused by the Xbox patch...

Don't know if there was a patch on the media center PC.

It started two days ago, before it worked for years without any issues.

 

Xbox has been connected for 15 minutes or so. Looks like the latest Windows Update did something to help. If you go to your Event Viewer log and look for Media Center in the Applications section, you can see the errors and disconnections happening. Good
so far though.
