    xbox 360 "Couldn't find your Xbox 360 Hard Drive"


    I have an xbox 360 in the original larger platform with the external disk drive. The unit was given to me and I am trying to get it working for my son. On the first attempt to boot it up I received an error that the disk drive was not found. I have tried
    various troubleshooting techniques to resolve the problem with no success. My last attempt was to run an update from a usb flash drive. The update tries to run, but returns with "update failed" followed by "Couldn't find your xbox 360 hard drive. If the hard
    drive is attached, contact xbox........" "PV:2.0.8507.0 CV:2.0.8955.0"

    At this point I cannot access the dashboard (I think thats what its called) to format the drive or try anything. If I press "b" for back it shows a new error: "Hard Drive Not Detected" "Cant find your xbox 360 Hard Drive. Please reattach it. After you attach
    the hard drive your console will automatically restart"

    When I plug the disk drive and reattached I get cycled back through the same loop.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Hi,

    You cannot install this game on a Xbox 360 4GB console. On the back of the box it specifically states the following:

    In order to play this game on your 4GB console, you'll need either a minimum of a 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive, or an official Xbox 360 hard drive (250GB/320GB for your Xbox 360 S console).

    Maybe take the HD off and restart your Xbox then reattach. Never had this problem with my old elite. may ne the connectors are dirty

    Tried that multiple times. Its recognizing that its there because it restarts when I take it off and reconnect it.

    Should I be able to get to the dashboard without a hard drive attached?

    A storage device (such as a memory unit or hard drive) was not found during the software update. Follow these steps:

    1. Turn off your console.
    2. Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drives or the internal hard drive on the Xbox 360 E console or Xbox 360 S console.

      Learn how to remove the hard drive      .
    3. Add your primary storage device, for example, the hard drive.
    4. Turn on the console
    5. Try updating the console again.

    It may be a faulty Hard Drive, if you have another hard drive that you could try then you could isolate the problem to be either that hard drive, or your console, in the case of your console, you may have to send it for repair. You can find additional information
