    Xbox 360 Controller Receiver turns my controller into a mouse...


    Hi guys, when I try to tether my xbox 360 controller to the wireless receiver, it usually blinks and has the circling flashing green light on the controller, and then once it is connected, one of the lights (top left) light up indicating that it is now active
    as Controller 1. But now when I tr to connect it, it blinks and circles like normal, then when it connects it continuously flashes, and only has the ability to work as a mouse (i.e. when I use the thumbpads or toggle, it moves the curser on the screen, and
    the other buttons on the controller don't work).

    Wireless Receiver 3.1 not recognized

    MS Support states the wireless receiver 3.1 (1028) will work with xbox 360 wireless controller. (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-hardware/microsoft-wireless-desktop-rec...).
    I suspect MS is mistaken. I have more time into this than I care to admit (it's only a game after all). All my components are MS branded.

    Nevertheless, the xbox controller app does not recognize the receiver on my PC (WIN7/64). Receiver is listed in device manager and function correctly for Mouse. Receiver came packaged with a mouse & keyboard but I no longer have keyboard. I suspect
    a receiver, -specifically for xbox controller- is what is needed.

    Has anyone ever witnessed MS Wireless Receiver 3.1 (1028) working with an xbox 360 controller? neil

    How could or would a game like Age of Empires work on console?

    the original Xbox only came with a controller. the Xbox 360 only came with a controller. the Xbox One comes with a controller. you can't buy an Xbox One with a Keyboard and Mouse.
    in my opinion if they don't sell them with a Keyboard and Mouse they shouldn't have support for Keyboard and Mouse. if you want to use
    Keyboard and Mouse you should play on a PC and not on a console.

    Are you using the keyboard to turn on the console, or a regular controller?

    My suggestion is to try using a regular Xbox One Controller (any should do, standard, Elite Series 1 or 2) to turn on the console, launch the game, then turn off the controller, and connect the keyboard and mouse after the controller has been turned off,
    you should then be prompted to select an account to use the keyboard and mouse with for the game.

    If you have windows 10 64 bit please choose the windows 7 64 bit version as that's compatible.
    Tested, no luck. Still behaving like a mouse ...

    Do you have steam installed? If so, please see this page to turn off that program's feature to have xbox controllers act as mouse and keyboard:
