Xbox 360 controller not working on PC

I am attempting to use a 360 controller with Windows 10. It's a wireless controller, but I connected it to my computer with a charging cable. I've tried installing and uninstalling two different drivers, but the controller still doesn't work and continuously
blinks the center lights. Additionally, when I looked at the list of devices connected to the computer, after installing the driver, the controller was recognized as a device but it said "driver unavailable." Is there any way to fix this, or do I just need
a wireless adapter?
