Xbox 360 controller not working on PC since windows update 1909

Hi, I've been using the wireless 360 controller on my PC with Windows 10 Pro for years without a problem, a few weeks ago a relative told me the windows update 2004 killed the drivers of the same controller on his PC and had to uninstall, modify them manually
and re-install them to make them work, so I refused to update to that version. Surprise!!!!!! Windows update 1909 killed my drivers as well.

Now here comes the wierd thing, he gave me the drivers he used to fix that and everything worked fine until the moment I tried to play Sea of Thieves, Microsoft Store version. The controller is not recognized. Checked on games on Steam, works fine, Uplay,
works fine, Epic, works fine, every other game in my PC, no matter where it comes from, the controller is working without a problem. After that wierd behavior I tried Minecraft Windows Version I installed years ago to play with the controller, not working
anymore.

So wireless controller and receiver works fine with everything but games from Microsoft Store. After a week looking for a solution I'm lacking ideas anymore.

Hi there,

in order to connect a wireless Xbox 360 controller to a PC you will require a wireless receiver, the 360 controllers do not support bluetooth.

I wound up being able to get the download to work after making sure my PC was fully up to date, including updating Windows itself to version 1909.

I had to roll back to Build 18363.900 version 1909 for the same reason. the new windows built stopped recognition of xbox 360 controller

They are really forcing us to buy xbox one controller

My Xbox elite controller just stopped working yesterday on a recently purchased laptop but already had the anniversary update on it so I can't roll back to the previous version of Windows 10.

I've noticed now that in the device and printer section of the Control Panel I've got a Xbox 360 controller for Windows entry which isn't present on another version of Windows 10 install on my desktop PC so this laptop now has two entries the elite controller
and the Xbox 360 controller in Control Panel.If I disabled the Xbox 360 controller entry I get functionality on the elite controller but on a restart Windows the 360 controller reappears in Control Panel and in device manager.

Strange thing that for a week since I've had this new laptop everything was working fine in, now steam doesn't recognise the elite controller and windows hasn't done an update so how's this happened?

If your controller isn't working on other PC running Windows 11 it tells me something is wrong with your controller.

There aren't any compatibility issues with older Xbox 360 controllers and Windows 11. I've just tried my old Xbox 360 wired controller in my brand new Windows 11 based PC and it works fine. The fact that it isn't working now is likely coincidental.
