Xbox 360 controller connection issue

Upon moving from one house to another, setting up my gaming consoles my xbox 360 and it's controller didn't connect at all... searched Youtube and tried those fixes to no avail...only thing that worked was a old usb dongle from a old wireless mouse. fast
forward to today the controller does activate my 360 w/o a dongle now but connection cuts out and reattaches...plugged back in the again and same thing happens...connects...turns on console, works awhile, loses connection and controllers green lights as well
as console spins and reconnects. I've a few games to finish and don't wanna replace whole unit. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Was it the official Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller? For the Xbox 360 wireless controller, an adapter is required. For Xbox One, the original Xbox One controller will only work when wired. For the One S controller, you can connect it via bluetooth.

How to connect the Xbox Chatpad to a controller

To connect the Xbox Chatpad to a controller, follow the steps below:

• First, you need to turn the controller and the Xbox 360 Chatpad so that the bottom of each faces up.
• The chatpad connector plug needs to be aligned with the controller’s expansion port. You have to align the two posts on the chatpad with the holes on the controller.
• Finally, you need to push the chatpad onto the controller with even pressure to attach. You have to ensure that there is no gape between the chatpad and the controller.

You can also connect an Xbox 360 Wired Headset or a mobile phone headset with the Xbox 360 Chatpad. To connect a headset, you need to plug it into the 2.5-mm audio jack on the chatpad.

Notes:

• You can connect the Xbox 360 Chatpad with both the Xbox 360 wired or wireless controllers.
• But you cannot use the Xbox 360 Chatpad with a controller connected to a personal computer.

Is this an official Xbox 360 controller? The official Xbox 360 controllers don't use a USB dongle to connect to the console which is why I ask. We do have a guide
