Xbox 360 controller causing whine in headphones.

So I'm trying to use an xbox 360 controller with a computer running Windows 8, it's connected into one of the two main USB ports and whenever the light is on, it's creating an annoying whine in my earphones. I don't really know how to fix it but I've
searched for a while trying to find a way to fix it.

    :)

if you are using a controller with a cord attached either charging it or connecting it wired to the xbox then it could be the extra power coming through the headphone jack on the controller causing the sound so use a completely wireless controller to
    test.

    My controller devours batteries,

Headphones attached to the controller does mean it will use the battery's allot quicker but not as fast as yours sounds to be.

Firstly you need to check and update the controller firmware (best done using a USB cable) with the headphones attached at the same time to the controller. To update the controller software go to the setting menu / All setting / Kinect & Device / Devices
    and then select update controller.

If this does not help try running the controller without any headphones / headphone adapters connected to see how long the controller then lasts. If you find the controller battery then lasts a pretty long it will probably mean the headset will be causing
the issue and if not it may be a controller problem.

Is your headset by any chance connected to your controller? If so then it's because the Xbox360 controller is not optimized to have a headset connected to it when it's connected to a pc

  5. What kind of computer are you using, and how are you connecting your 360 controller (wired/wireless)?

Is the issue the same with either of the two main USB ports? Do you have more USB ports to try? Do you hear the same thing with other pairs of headphones you may have? Do you hear the same thing when you connect other kinds of USB devices?

It sounds to me that the way the computer is built, the USB line (internally) seems to run close enough to the 3.5mm audio line to cause electrical interference/noise when enough power is drawn through the USB port. Ultimately, there may not be much you
can do due to how the computer is built... as far as I know.

Internet Expert it was the positioning of the USB port and the Audio port. I plugged the controller into the back USB port and the whine stopped while the controller works fine. Thanks!

    Xbox headphones.

Maybe the port in your controller is faulty, also test the headphones on another device to make sure the issue isn't caused by the headphone.

    Xbox Elite Controller no sound

Check the headphones on another controller to make sure they aren't the cause
