    Xbox 360 console won't turn on with specific HD


    Today I tried turning on my xbox 360 only to find that it wouldn't turn on. I checked the power cables and tried pressing the eject button, but neither of those turned on my console. Also the light on my power supply is a solid orange, not red, so I don't
    think it's a power issue. Since I recently traded out my old hard drive for a new one, I figured I'd check to see if the xbox would turn on with my old hard drive and it did.

    While I'm glad my console isn't just broken, I would really like to be able to use my new hard drive since I spent like $50 on it and it has a bunch of save files on it. Is there something I can do either to the xbox or the hard drive to get it to work with
    my new hard drive or is this a sign that my new hard drive is fried?

    Some things that might be important:

    I'm using the original xbox 360 console.

    My new hard drive was already having issues where it would reset the time whenever I turned off the console. This could be an issue with the power supply I suppose, but I only started noticing it once I switched hard drives.

    I recently had a power outage, which is why I'm thinking my hard drive could be fried, but I'm really really hoping this isn't the case.

    Transfering your xbl games to the new XBOX 720....

    Where do people come up with this 720 name? 360 is based on a 360 degree full turn.

    MS bought into specific technology so yeah, a new console is clearly in the works.

    However don't forget about windows 8 integration with Kinect (and a HD kinect pc variant) and the possibility of playing 360 tiles on Windows 8 based on hardware (its not part of testing currently).

    The console won't be called 720.

    Will you be keeping the 360 when the 'nextbox' comes out?

    I'm also keeping my Xbox 360 to use the HD-DVD Player because I'm 100% sure that the next Xbox console won't since HD-DVD is dead.

    Ok so I just figured out that it couldn't have been the power outage because the xbox is plugged into a surge protector (I didn't know that was what that was lol). So now I have no idea what caused the hard drive to fail.

    Try removing the HD. Does the console boot without the HD ? Try the troubleshooter here:

    If after all this your console still won't load the dashboard, contact XBox support.

    Yes, 32GB is the limit for external USB devices on the 360. The system can take two 32GB USB storage devices attached at a time. Anything larger formatted by the 360 will have unused/wasted space.
