    xbox 360 console turns on and off by itself


    I have the xbox 360 50G black console and for about a month now it will randomly turn on or off. When it does this I have to go in and reset my display info et.al. I've tried laying it down, standing it up, unplugging and anything else I could think of.
    Any suggestions?

    Console turns ON and OFF by itself

    Do you have the xbox 360 slim? If you do than clean the touch sencers (power button and eject button) IF you have the original xbox 360 console try taking the face plate off. You can turn the console off and on by controller .

    xbox 360 console turns on and off by itself

    I had the same problem, my console is 2 years old now, had it repaired and that seemed to slow how often it occurs but on the odd occasion it still shuts off and resets. Seems to be like an old car and needs a bit of a warm up to get going. Very frustrating.

    Thank you for the link. I think it may be a power supply issue. Question: why shouldn't it be plugged into a surge protector?? Also to be clear when it turns on by itself it will shutoff in less then a minute. I believe it may be a power supply issue
    because I did see a red light,briefly, on the transformer the last time I witnessed it happening.. Thoughts???

    I had this problem today on the 360 slim 4gb. I took out the external hard drive and then put it back in. Works so far.
