Hardware service for original Xbox 360 consoles has been discontinued. Microsoft now only offers service for the later 360S and 360E consoles.

 

Xbox One online connection required

I agree. Besides, requiring online connection every 24 hours for playing means the console or at least its games will be useless after the services are discontinued. At least with Xbox 360, you can still play single player after Xbox Live Support for 360
will be discontinued. Sorry to say this, Microsoft, but after you are done with Xbox 360, I am done with you.

 

We all knew this day would come eventually, its been In production for over ten years. Thanks for the info

 

time to buy a spare just in case before they all disappear and all that is left are the banned 360's or faulty 360's

 

The 360 was the leading console last gen. Maybe not in total sales but it changed gaming. It started achievements, game updates, party chat, friends lists, and pretty much is the reason online play for consoles is as popular as it is today. Games like Gears
and Halo were a huge part of that as well.

I read an article today naming all the things that helped the 360 kick butt last gen and the things I listed were just a few of many.

 

since late last year i havent seen any xbox 360s selling in stores in my city.

 

So much fun was had on the 360, great era.

 

PS2 was my first console I had. Only had it for 2 weeks then got rid of it. It was a 2nd hand one.

Got Xbox 360 late 2010 and have had a blast with it. Best console in my life! Made heaps of friends and met hundreds of people on it. Xbox 360 and Xbox One are exactly LIKE social media. Voice messaging, text messaging, picture messaging on Xbox 360 (bring
this to Xbox One!!), PARTY chat where on Xbox 360's UI it shows your and other people's Xbox 3D avatars which is really kwl, in the party and on the Social page of Xbox 360's UI. How genuine Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles DON'T get viruses (genuine reports
of genuine Xbox 360/Xbox One consoles getting viruses are negligible. On PC's, you don't even have to visit naughty sites to get viruses). The year I got Xbox 360 was the exact year Microsoft released the Xbox 360 Slim console version to Australia and New
Zealand. Yes, I have the Xbox 360 Slim 250GB console and it's still working fine today.

I noticed NZ retailers stopped selling Xbox 360 consoles mid last year (JB Hi Fi, DSE, etc). They did sell the E model.

Farcape, you're welcome to purchase my Xbox 360 console in 4 years time. It's genuine. I'll charge $5,000 for it. Just kidding. I will never get rid of my Xbox 360 slim console.

 

I watched this video once about when I the very first Xbox came out. What really kicked the console off was this amazing online service called Xbox Live which Microsoft runs. It's April 2016 and there are more than twice as many people still active on Xbox
360 than there are on Xbox One. Ok it only has 512MB RAM. But we don't care cause Minecraft is the most played game on Xbox 360 and you have a lot of social fun and make lots of friends on it. Xbox Live Party Chat on Xbox 360 has been a huge success on it
too. The way Microsoft brings that feature out and it's UI design has been epic. I expect them to continue Xbox Live support for Xbox 360 until at least another 2 or 3 years.

 

The Xbox 360 legacy can always continue with Xbox One. At Launch, Xbox One got lots of negative feedback. It got so out of control Microsoft created an official feedback site, had to do TWO POLICY REVERSALS regarding Kinect and mandatory online checks. Phil
Spencer even admitted that lots of Xbox fans wanted Xbox 360 Features like change the UI background and VOICE MESSAGING and play music in the background while playing games and now Xbox One has backwards compatibility on Xbox One.

Hmm, I might have to go buy one before they are all gone. I still got some Xbox 360 Games I'm pretty sure will never make it to the BC list and my old Reach Limited Edition Xbox 360 is starting to sound like a jet-engine when
it's turned on.

Despite all the flaws of the Xbox 360 it will be missed and was truly a great Generation of Gaming.

 

I never did get the RROD . I started with the white 20 GB model then 2 years later traded up for the Black Elite model then I traded up for the 360S model. All 3 worked flawlessly . I also bought the Kinect too.

Mass Effect blew my mind on that console and RDR was amazing. . . . man there were so many good games GoW , Halo . . . .
