Xbox 360 Connects to Internet but not to Xbox Live

I've used the Netflix and/or Youtube apps every day this week, last night and today the Xbox wouldn't connect to live.

Testing the Live connection shows Network and Internet connection, no Xbox Live connection, and the Live Status shows Up for all services.

This is a fairly old Xbox, but it's work very reliably for me for years, and while I'd like to get an Xbox One someday, that's not really feasible right now.

I have tried the following:

Power cycled my router and modem (left unplugged for 15 minutes)

Cleared Xbox system cache and restarted

Reset Xbox network settings

Setup port forwarding on ports 53, 80, 88, 3074 on the router (never need this before, but tried it anyway)

I'm in Utah

(Side question: the Xbox sees that my wi-fi speeds are much higher than it's using, why doesn't it have higher upload/download?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Can't watch Netflix/Youtube on the big TV without Live.

Xbox 360 Internet connectivity Problem

I am trying to connect my xbox 360 to xbox live. Before I install the new update, the xbox internet works fine. But, after the update my xbox either does not connect to the internet or it says that the xbox 360 will connect to the internet but, xbox live
won't connect properly or something like that. I can only connect to the internet by using my laptop to share the connection. So does anyone have any idea to fix this? Thanks.

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble watching Netflix and YouTube! Are you still having issues connecting?

If you are, could you try clearing your cache three times in succession, then turning your console off and back on again? After doing
that, please re-download — not delete! — your profile. If you need help with that, please check out the troubleshooting article on how to Add
or Remove an Xbox Profile on Xbox 360.

I did clear the cache three times in succession and rebooted, as requested. When I tried to download my profile again, I was unable to, as the xbox could not connect to xbox live.

I dug up our previous xbox 360, (which was retired because the disc tray doesn't always open, and the fans are so loud we can barely hear the tv over them), and it connected to xbox live right away. It just finished downloading updates, since it hasn't been
used in 2-3 years, and it is downloading my profile just great. FWIW, it's using the wireless adapter from the device that isn't connecting to Live.

Is there something in the XBox itself that could wear out, such that it doesn't connect to Live anymore? Or some other settings somewhere I can reset, so it will connect agian?

I would like to upgrade to and XBox One, but wasn't planning on doing so quite yet, so it would be nice if we could get the 360 working, but if not I guess we can use the old one with the noisy fans until we can purchase a One.

Of course! We're totally appreciative that you're taking the time to do the steps and troubleshooting with us.

You may have already done this, but have you directly wired your Xbox 360 console instead of using it wirelessly to connect to Xbox Live? Does it produce the same results if you attempt to connect to Xbox Live on your older Xbox 360 with it wired as well?
Additionally, is the Xbox 360 console you're having problems with an original or an S model? There could be something wrong with either the Wireless Network Adapter or the built-in WiFi.

I have not connected it with a wire, as I don't have a cable long enough to do so. I will hunt around and see if I can borrow one from work..

I would say both consoles are original models, though the older device that IS connecting to live right now doesn't have the HDMI video out, the slightly newer one does, so they are different in that regard.

I did wonder if it's the wireless adapter having a problem, but I only have the one adapter. I moved the adapter to the old one last night. With one console it connects, with the other it doesn't.

I suppose the usb port it plugs into could have worn out? if I can find a long enough network cable at work, I'll take it home and try it out.

Alright, I found a network cable just long enough to plug the console in, and it does connect to live again. However, going wired is definitely not a viable long term solution.

So I tried plugging the wireless adapter into one of the front usb ports and it works, hooray!

I guess the one in the back no longer works correctly, so I'll just hva eto leave the adapter in the front, until I can upgrade to an Xbox One.
