Xbox 360 Catch 22 - can't connect to live or update

I've not played my Xbox 360 for about 3 years (birth of triplets!), so connected it all up. It immediately asks me to update the system as I won't be able to connect to xbox live without the update, but during the update it says it cannot connect to Xbox
live. I get the error:

4099-0000-0080-0300-8007-0570

When searching on this error it seems that there have been posts before on the forum, but Xbox live has an internal error and can't display those posts. I have tested the internet connection which is OK, I reformatted the disk space, re-did the network connections
etc. etc. but with no luck. Very frustrating as I have already wasted an hour on this.

Updating new Dashboard error

8007-2746 means you're having a connectivity issue.

Its a "lovely" cycle - can't update cause it needs to connect to live, can't connect because it needs an update but can't update until it connects to live.

You can try manually installing by going to support.xbox.com and searching for console update - "Update your xbox 360 console" will have the information you need.
