Xbox 360 can't connect to internet.

Recently we had a problem where our Xbox 360 could no longer log on to XBox live. The problem has come back. I'd appreciate suggestions on what I might try to get things working properly.

The following procedure, suggested on these forums, fixed the problem last weekend:

1 System settings >storage >hard drive. Press Y and delete the cache.
    2 System settings >storage
3 Enter the following button sequence: X, LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X
4 Select the option to roll back all system updates that are installed.
    The console will restart automatically.
5 Disconnect your router and turn off your console for 5 minutes.
6 Once your router is back online, go back to your xbox and complete the update.

The problem came back last night, and I used the above procedure to get the Xbox 360 able to connect to Xbox Live again. However, when the Xbox 360 was turned on again this morning, once again it could no longer log on to Xbox Live.

I have tried using the above procedure several more times. Sometimes it has worked, sometimes it has not: sometimes when the Xbox 360 re-starts at step 6, it does not try to install the system update.

Every time the Xbox 360, once working properly, is turned off, it loses the ability to connect to XBox Live.

All our other household internet devices can use the internet as usual, via a mix of wired and wireless connections.

I would appreciate suggestions on what I might try next. I noted the error status report during my latest attempt to get the Xbox 360 connecting to Xbox Live. The exact procedure I followed was this, using the Xbox 360 connected to the modem/router via
an Ethernet cable - the cable in question provides reliable video streaming when we connect it to our laptop, so I'm confident that the cable's fine.

    1) Turned on Xbox 360 and attempted to log in using a profile that connects to Xbox Live.

This failed and provided what I assume is an error code: 8015190E.

I followed the suggestion to test the Xbox Live connection.

The test showed that the Xbox 360 could use the local network but could not access the internet.

    The troubleshooting suggestion page stated:

MTU error: a problem with your router or modem is preventing communication with Xbox Live.

I pressed Y for the error status report, which was as follows:

    W: 0000-000B
    X: 0000-F001
    Y: 0000-0000
    Z: 0000-0000
    ID: FFFF-FFFF
    L: 0015-10F1
    Q: 8007-0435
    T: Wired
    A: 192.168.1.233/255.255.255.0
    G: 192.168.1.1
    D: 192.168.1.1/0.0.0.0

    2) I then selected "Configure Network" and "Restore to Factory Defaults".

    3) I selected System Settings > Storage > Hard Drive and checked all data items for corruption by looking for a yellow !. I saw no corrupted data.

I then followed the steps suggested above.

    4) System settings > storage > hard drive. Press Y and delete the cache.

    5) System settings > storage Enter the following button sequence: X, LB, RB, X, LB, RB, X

    8) Select the option to roll back all system updates that are installed.

    9) The console restarted itself. At this point, it showed the profile log-in screen. All profiles were displayed with generic avatars.

    10) Turned off the Xbox 360 and the router - I disconnected the router's power lead.

    11) After five minutes, I powered up the router.

    12) When internet access was restored, checked by accessing the Web using a PC, I turned on the Xbox 360.

    13) The first thing that appeared on the screen was:

    "Update required

A system update is available from Xbox Live.
    [...]

Do you want to apply the update now?'

    I selected Yes.

    14) The Xbox 360 responded with "Update in progress" and a progress bar.

    15) When the update was completed, the XBox 360 restarted. Profile avatars showed up as their usual forms.

    16) I tried logging on using a profile which connects to Xbox Live. The Xbox 360 reported that it could not connect to Xbox Live - the problem once again MTU error.

Before it was suggested I should try rolling back system updates to solve this problem, I had previously tried the following to get the Xbox 360 able to connect to Xbox Live.

I have made no further changes to the router's setup, so it's still in the state described below.

I looked for help on-line including using the troubleshooting guide here <https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/networking/connection-error-solution> and followed recommendations to do these things:

    1) Turn on Universal PnP - I had already done this when we got the Xbox 360, and UPnP was still turned on when I checked.

Specifically, the router settings for: UPnP and UPnP NAT-T are both enabled. It says that "UPnP NAT-T only works when NAT is enable" (yes, "enable" not "enabled").

When I look at the UPnP setting on my router, it reports an Xbox at IP address 192.168.1.233 with a connection: external port and internal port 3074, protocol UDP.

    2) Try a wired home network connection: I plugged the Xbox 360 into the home Ethernet and told the Xbox 360 to use it.

    3) Reset the Xbox 360 network settings using Network settings: Restore To Factory Defaults.

    4) Clear the Xbox 360 cache.

    5) Set manual firewall rules to open up the ports listed here:

    <https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/networking/network-ports-used-xbox-live>

    6) Set NAT to do port mapping like this using the appropriate IP address (192.168.1.233 in this case):

    : Start : End : Map
    Description : Protocol : port : port : port

    Xbox 360 TCP 53 53 53
    Xbox 360 UDP 53 53 53
    Xbox 360 UDP 88 88 88
    Xbox 360 TCP 3074 3074 3074
    Xbox 360 UDP 3074 3074 3074

    7) Put the Xbox 360's IP in the DMZ of my router.

I tried all the above suggestions, and after making the last changes powered off the router/modem and Xbox 360 both. I left the router/modem for the recommended five minutes, then plugged in and powered up the Xbox 360 again. The Xbox 360 still couldn't
    connect to the Internet.

    :)

I can't, it says that it's not connected to the internet. My xbox one is connected to the internet but when I try to play a 360 game on the xbox one it says that it can't connect to the internet.

    Hello

And thank you for your suggestion. I don't have access to another home network, but I did try connecting the Xbox 360 via an iPhone personal hotspot.

The Xbox 360 connected successfully and asked if I wanted to download the system update it needed (due to me having rolled back system updates previously).

I selected "No", because the amount of data needing to be downloaded would have caused an expensive phone bill.

I turned off DMZ on the home router.

Via the usual home networking setup, I tried activating the router/modems internal WiFi (we usually use a separate WiFi base station) and connecting the Xbox 360 directly to the router/modem via its WiFi. The Xbox 360 connected successfully to WiFi, but
could not connect to the internet.

It does look as if there's something about our router that is causing the trouble.

    I'd appreciate any troubleshooting suggestions.

    Hello Gareth,

Thank you for posting here on the Xbox forums. We definitely appreciate you letting us know all of the troubleshooting steps you have tried to resolve this issue. I would like to suggest an easy step to try out first. This step can help us identify whether
the issue is coming from the network, or the console itself.

Can you try your Xbox 360 on a different network? A different home network would be ideal if possible, but a hotspot could work out as well. Id only use a hotspot if a different home network (friend or family's) is not available, since hotspots can still
    cause issues on a console.

I would also like to add that UPnP does not combine well with DMZ. You should try one or the other, never both at the same time. Doing so would cause issues connecting to your network for the device set up with DMZ.
