Xbox 360 can't connect through switch after changing gateway

I used to connect to my ISP through an older cable gateway (Netgear CG3100), but after upgrading my service to a higher speed they sent me a newer one (Netgear CG3700EMR) to handle the higher throughput.

The new one only has two Ethernet ports, while the old one had four. Since I need those, I bought a switch (Netgear GS105). I didn't swap out the gateway for quite some time, but I did plug the switch in to check if things were working correctly. They were.

After having run this setup for several weeks, I decided yesterday to swap to the new gateway, have my ISP register it, and plugged things in. And that's where things get weird.

When connected through the switch, my Xbox 360 S cannot access Xbox Live... until I either connect it straight to one of the Ethernet ports on the gateway, or connect it over Wi-Fi. If I do that, it works. And if I then connect it to the switch again, it
keeps working so long as it's not dropped by the gateway. Then, it cannot connect anew until I repeat the procedure. There is no pattern to the errors reported by the Xbox 360 when testing the connection, it covers the whole gamut.

Everything is connected by Cat 5e cables, and the gateway and switch work in 1000 Mbps mode. The previous gateway was connected the same way.

The simple workaround to this problem is of course to switch to using Wi-Fi, but I'd rather not take the potential loss in bandwidth.

So, the router and internal switch in the gateway and external switch aren't playing well together when it comes to the Xbox 360. But is this a common issue and is there a typical cause?

Known Issues

I got a new Cisco DPC3939 from Comcast this afternoon. I was able to successfully connect to XBox Live with my XBox 360 after the modem/gateway was up and running. Two hours later, after having changed nothing, I tried to login to Xbox Live from the same
Xbox 360 and consistently got a DNS related error when testing the wireless network connection. We chatted with a Comcast support technician. She changed our modem/gateway channel number and resynced the modem/gateway with the network. We then restarted
the XBox 360 and tried connecting to XBox Live. It worked!!

We'll see if this permanently solves the issue. BTW, I had done all of the things DylanAndDad11 tried. In my case, changing the channel number on the modem/gateway worked. Hope this helps.
