Xbox 360 cannot obtain IP address

I have scanned the forums but there is a lot of advanced tech talk there. I need help convincing my router to give my xbox 360 an IP address. The router belongs to my cable company, so I do not have an owner's manual for it. I have tried the following
things:

1. resetting the router

2. moving the xbox physically closer to the router

3. using an ethernet-wired connection instead of a wireless connection.

4. manually assigned a static IP address on the xbox.

5. Going back through network configuration with correct password entered

I always get the same result: "IP Address Error."

I have no idea how to check for MAC filtering on my router. The router brand appears to be "Technicolor" model TC8717T.

Is this a problem I can fix, or do I need to call my ISP for router help? Thanks for any advice.

Well, if you have tried all the steps I would call your ISP and see what they say.

I have the same problem. My laptop internet connection works, but the Xbox LIVE connection does not. I have tried that link and tried every single step, except for the PPoE settings because I don't use a username and password to access the internet, and
I still cannot connect. I am using a modem with DSL connection and using an ethernet cable, which has successfully worked before and until just recently when I started receiving this error. This is extremely frustrating! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
