Xbox (360) can connect to Internet, but not Xbox LIVE

This is an error message I have never received before. The wireless network is up, I'm here, other devices are here, and the Xbox can also connect to it. The Xbox cannot, however, connect to Xbox LIVE.

Some time after 12:00 GMT today, my Xbox 360 was kicked from Xbox LIVE and has since been completely unable to reconnect to the service, despite having a stable and (usually) good connection.

I usually play using an ethernet Powerline connection. I have used this system for two years in different houses with no issues before. I try to avoid playing on the wireless network itself for latency issues, but it usually works without issue (the only
issue is fighting for bandwidth with other devices, hence the powerline).

Following the Network Diagnostic advice, I set up NAT opening and Port Forwarding for my Xbox 360. I assigned it a static IP, opened port 3074 on my network for that IP, and for about 5 minutes, I had Xbox LIVE up and running at about 19:45 GMT. I did this
using the wireless network itself. I connected the ethernet connection in again, and the system immediately broke again.

I have since opened the remaining three network ports (53, 80, 88), rebooted the router and 360 countless times and tried both the ethernet and wireless connections. Though connecting to the internet, the console is refusing to connect to Xbox LIVE. It is
now 21:31, so I've been unable to resolve this issue myself (successfully) for nine hours.

I did manage to get the connection briefly online. It was connected to Xbox LIVE, presenting me with the Marketplace, and online-only game launchers such as World of Tanks were operational, before I decided to reconnect the ethernet cable.

I know that this fix worked and now that it has un-worked, I'm completely lost for where to go.

Cant connect

My xbox live for 360 Has not been working since last night, I can connect to the internet but not Xbox Live and it says xbox live is working but it wont let me connect to Xbox live

 

Xbox 360 Internet connectivity Problem

I am trying to connect my xbox 360 to xbox live. Before I install the new update, the xbox internet works fine. But, after the update my xbox either does not connect to the internet or it says that the xbox 360 will connect to the internet but, xbox live
won't connect properly or something like that. I can only connect to the internet by using my laptop to share the connection. So does anyone have any idea to fix this? Thanks.

 

Update (because apparently "editing has been disabled for this post"):

I spent seven hours trying to fix my network settings last night. I gave up at 2:30 GMT.

I turned the Xbox back on at 8:30 GMT this morning, and it connected fine. I booted up the World of Tanks launcher and entered the game menu (which it will not do without full internet connection), and it was fine.

I then turned off the Xbox and tended to some jobs. Now it's 10:30 GMT, and it has broken itself again.

This has now gone beyond a joke, and there doesn't seem to be a realistic fix for this.

 

Do I understand your topology correct if I describe it as; gateway -> wired to the powerline adapter 1 (Wall socket) -> powerline adapter 2 (wall socket) -> wireless/wired to your Xbox 360.

Initally, have you tried to power cycle your modem/router?

Do you have the option to connect your console directly into your modem/router?

Is there any other device that connects through your powerline adapter(s) that actually work without disruption?

Could you post up the make and model of your modem/router along with the m/m of your powerline adapters.

Are you able setup your smartphone as a hotspot (different network) and connect your console through your providers cellular network instead.

I have power cycled nearly everything in the house. I've exhausted the entire troubleshooting suggestion list for this issue.

I cannot connect the console directly into the modem, as the two inhabit different rooms.

My old laptop had previously worked without issue on the powerline; I suspect the ethernet driver on this laptop has somehow failed (before I acquired it). The Xbox has functioned with the powerline on this network at different times over the past two years;
and also the network at a different house for one year.

I'm not 100% on "make and model", but it is a Virgin Media SuperHub 2 (combined modem/router). The powerline adapters are Netgear Powerline AV500s.

I attempted using my smartphone as a hotspot, but the connection was very poor and failed to connect at all in Test Network.

Two things I have not attempted: I have an external wireless adapter from an older model of Xbox 360 (this device is a Slim with an internal system). There is also a Netgear router, which I could attempt connecting through by setting the modem to modem-only
mode. This router is not used since the modem is its own router, and has a much higher speed than the Netgear. Previously, both were operating in conjunction and causing significant interference before I disconnected it (~2 weeks ago).

I contacted Xbox Support via live chat this afternoon, and they were unable to identify the problem. They suggested turning the machine in for repair. For only a little more than the cost of that, I could buy a whole new X360 slim second-hand, so frankly
no.

I'm led to believe the problem must lie in the wireless adapter, but can't think why that would be affected the wired powerline connection as well; or why the Xbox is still able to connect to the internet, but not Xbox LIVE.

I have a partial traceroute that I took on the Xbox last night. Xbox Support wasn't interested, would it be of use to you?

 

Update - After setting my modem into Modem Only mode and instead using the wireless connection of a spare router lying around, it has connected to Xbox LIVE with zero problems.

This at least confirms that the Xbox itself is fine, now I have to try and work out why the good network refuses to co-operate.

 

The SH2 is notorious when it comes to serve Xbox 360/One traffic.

I would recommend that you keep your SH2 operating in bridge mode, and that you may visit the manufacture's website, to make sure your router is up-to-date with the latest version of firmware.

What is the make and model of your router?
