  1. Xbox 360 Backwards Compatible games not outputting 7.1 audio from HDMI

Don't know if this was a known issue or not, but just noticed it when playing Black Ops 2. (also reported it to the Xbox Support Twitter)

So I noticed that when playing the game on my 7.1 Denon receiver, I am not getting audio out of the rear 2 channels, despite Xbox One games having no issue. Everything is connected through HDMI, audio output set to 7.1 uncompressed on the Xbox One, and the
receiver displays "multi channel in 7.1". My theory is that it is an issue with the 360 emulation on the Xbox one.

I then tested another 360 compatible game, Halo Reach, and it is having the same problem. So far, the only work around I have found is setting the sound output to uncompressed 5.1 on the Xbox one, and set the receiver to MULTI Dolby EX, which lets the receiver
do the work and translate to 7.1 speakers.

Basically, I either have to reset my audio output each time in the Xbox One settings when switching from 360 to Xbox One games and vice versa. Or, just play the games on my 360, which I have a specific input set up on my stereo to address this already.

    Anyone else noticing this?

    :)

Surround Sound Not Working with 5.1 Receiver

Unlike the Xbox 360, the Xbox One does not currently support outputting Dolby Digital 5.1/7.1 audio. Understand that DD 5.1/7.1 is simply a compressed/encoded version of what the One DOES output, which is uncompressed 5.1/7.1 multichannel PCM audio. That
is the option you chose when you selected HDMI Manual. However, it sounds like your receiver does not properly support multichannel PCM (which is why the One would not allow you to select it on Auto) and does not support DTS. This is not surprising given
the receiver is very low end. In general, Home Theater In a Box receivers are to be avoided...

    Xbox one optical update?

i have not tried the optical out directly on the xb1... i have run my dolby surround on a (out) for my tv... i guess i should try it off my xb1 and see if i get the update??

it would make no sense to me that it would only work with a headset/astros/tb... to get the update thru a plug in on the controller..

i have used my xb1 hdmi out to my tv and used the coax/aux audio output to my digital bar... games like bf4 have changed compared to convential speaker/tv speakers... but forza5 sounds the same... and really in twitch streams it dosnt have the output/digital feed like it would on personal console/game..

so if it was bundled in with the update i got it.. if i had to connect some other way than i did not or was not prompted to at any point that i connected the soundbar.

    i followed this:
Connect Xbox One to Your Home Theater or Sound System

Audio receiver with optical or sound bar

This is a slightly more complicated configuration that may require cables other than HDMI cables. This option provides full surround sound from your television set-top box. It’s best for older A/V receivers that either don’t have an HDMI port or don’t support audio over HDMI.

Connect your set-top box HDMI output to the Xbox One HDMI input.
Connect the Xbox One HDMI output to the HDMI input on your television.
Connect the audio output from the television to the audio input on the sound bar using either HDMI or Optical S/PDIF cables.

unless i am missing something my coax wont plug in to the back of my xb1.. i have to go directly from the tv.

Xbox 360 Backwards Compatible games not outputting 7.1 audio from HDMI

    Hey there,

The Xbox 360 console doesn't support 7.1 surround, only 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS. Due to this, it is normal that backward compatible games are outputting 5.1 surround. On your Xbox 360 setup, it sounds you have it set up with Pro Logic IIx to simulate 7.1
surround sound, but the Xbox 360 console doesn't support true 7.1 surround sound.

Hope this helps clear it up.

Xbox 360 games doesn't have music on my xbox one

Hi and thanks for reaching Microsoft Xbox gamer's community. My name is Josef.
I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft Xbox user like you.

Hope you're doing great today despite this Lucio

Just to confirm, is this happening only with Xbox 360 (backwards compatible) games?
Or are you experiencing something similar with Xbox one games?

If it’s the first, may I know if you tried changing your HDMI audio output?
For example, if you’re using 7.1 uncompressed change it to stereo uncompressed and try again (repeat until you test with all the options)

    HDMI Monitor - Sound?

You can buy an adapter with the necessary audio outputs for use with HDMI. I know Turtle Beach makes one, buy I got a knock-off from eBay for about $4.

When the Xbox One launches, it will support HDMI. If I'm not mistaken, Microsoft said that headsets that are compatible with the 360 will now work on the Xbox One.
