Xbox 360 ask's for a WEP key for my wireless but my network is WPA2?

Hello, so the Xbox in question is only about a year old..it was a 4 gig but it has my hard drive from my older 360 that's 250 gigs. Anyway I run live on a wireless connection and I didn't have a problem on my old one but this one ask's for a WEP key when
I try to test the connection, but my network's a WPA2. I can get it to work partly by manually going into my router and resetting the security to WPA2 but I have to do this every time the Xbox is cut off and my connection with live is only half decent. Any
way I can fix this?

xbox set up requesting WEP P/W but my network has a WPA key?

When attempting to set up wireless connection with xbox live, system detects my wireless network, but then request WEP password and not the WPA network key... which is how to access my home network? How do I get xbox to identify this correctly?

What Country/State/Province do you live in? NY

Modem brand & model number: Linksys E3000

Router brand & model number: Webstar 030163180

Network Connection Type: Wireless/Wired Wireless

If Wireless, what type of encryption are you using? WEP Key

Things you have tried: Reseting Router, Different WEP with different caps

Is UPnP Enabled? Yes/no/Unknown Unknown

Is NAT Type Open? Yes

Any Error Codes you encounter: The given WEP key is not valid

What type of internet do you have? Cable/DSL/T1/3G? Cable

Who is your ISP(Internet Service Provider)? Optimum Online

When you run "Test Xbox LIVE connection" what is the exact message shown on screen?
Nothing i can't even reach this screen because i can't get into my network

Basically my network won't accept my WEP key even though its correct. it works for my computer, the other 3 in my house and my brothers xbox, but won't work for mine. I can use use admin to get in, but i can't connect
to live. And theres no cap on the amount of users on the network.

When you say you are using your hard drive from your older console do you mean the old FAT console? If so then the hard drive has been modded to fit into the new Slim console. Discussions that involve modding are strictly forbidden on the forums and as
such no one will be able to help with your issue.

The hard drive is from an older slim 360... Nothing on the console in question has been modded, I am simple using a bigger hard drive.

Are you sure that the router does require a WEP key instead of a WPA2 or other alternate password? If you're trying to log onto a WPA2 protected network by entering a WEP key it does this at times. This can be changed in Network Settings on the home screen.

WEP is EXTREMELY insecure for Wi-Fi. If you have even one powered-on device connected to your wireless network, your WEP key can be discovered in as little as 5 minutes by someone, granting them unauthorized access to your internet connection and to your
home computers and XBox as if you gave the key to them. I have personally demonstrated this in a security presentation for my profession.

Hypothetically, though I have a lot of neighboring WiFi networks several of them still use WEP. I can pick off ALL the WEP keys within an hour assuming I tried, so big no for WEP. WPA and WPA2 is much harder. Just don't use a very simple paraphrase/key.
Think of one that's complex yet easy to remember, similar to the rules of a good password. Do not use your phone number! Typically the wireless signal when someone is in close proximity to your network can determine your and it's location. This is how Google
Maps with wireless networking is able to give you pretty idea of your location. So it's bad to use information related to where you live for yourWPA or WPA2 key.
