Xbox 360 asking for a WEP key, I don't use WEP I have WPA

I'm having this problem too. It's not that I don't know the password, I do, but I know the password for the WPA not the WEP. Tried the WPA password and it didn't work, and all the Microsoft help is about finding out what my network password is. I KNOW WHAT
IT IS!! I have 3 laptops, a TV, my other 360, an Xbox one, about 6 tablets/phones, all connected using the right password.

My question is, how do I make my 360 ask me for a WPA password instead of WEP!

Are you sure you are entering the WEP/WPA key correctly , you may be saying its a WEP when the key you use is WPA have a look at your router settings.

i'd attach a keyboard (usb type) and try entering wpa or wep key that way

also stick with wep key 64bit or wpa PSK this can be 128bit

 

Can you try switching your router to WEP and then switched back to WPA?

 

Wouldn't let me do that, I don't know why, the WEP option was faded out and I couldn't change it.

I did manage to connect though, I ran my xbox through the initial set up again and when I connected it to the internet, it asked for the WPA password instead of the WEP!

 

Go yo advanced options, Specify an unlisted network and enter your SSID of your internet (For example VM93729-5G) and select WPA2, Enter it and job done.
