  1. XBox 360 as WMC 7 Extender cannot Play Live TV nor see Recorded TV (Neither DRM nor Non DRM)

When trying to play Live TV or Recorded TV on XBox WMC Extender receive the following error:

"Files needed to play video are not installed..."
XBox can play videos. CANNOT play Live TV, Recorded TV
WMC (Win 7) CAN play videos, Live TV, Recorded TV (including DRM)
Using HDHomeRun Prime as TV source
Have downloaded Optional Media Update to XBox (cannot find a way to "install", is the install automatic based on download?)
AUDIO is set up through HDMI connection
Have both XBox and Win 7 PC on the same ethernet switch (for now)
Ethernet switch is connected via Actiontec ECB2200 to a MoCA network on a MoCA capable Router (40'). All devices communicate.
Both Win 7 PC and Xbox are currently, directly connected to same TV via HDMI (2 separate HDMI inputs)
Have tried rebooting all devices including router, deleting/reinstalling extender, etc. etc.
I have contacted Xbox Chat Tech Support, over 1 hour session resulting in being told that this is “piracy”, however promising in the end to forward to higher technical support. Really? Non-DRM?
What else can I check, install to be able to use XBox Media Extender to view Live TV and recorded TV.

    :)

You were doing it with DRM free recordings then, which is a thing of the past with practically all cable providers now. If you want to record TV now you need a cable card device. WMC and tivo are the only systems I'm aware of that you can legally play back
    DRM protected recordings.

The 360 is pretty much undisputed as the best WMC extender there is (and the only one left now that works with Windows 8). It lets me setup WMC on my computer downstairs and then "extend" practically the entire WMC experience over the network to my 360 on
the big screen upstairs (or any other TV a 360 is connected to). I can play music, recorded TV, and view pictures from my PC. Yea, you can do that much with other 360 functions, but I can also watch live cable TV, browse through the TV guide, and set recordings
from either the 360 or my PC. With my Comcast DVR I think I had 250GB of storage (which I practically had to fight to upgrade from 120GB) and if I wanted to pause live TV I think I had a 15-20 minute buffer. I have a separate 3TB hard drive in my PC just for
TV recordings and I tweaked the settings so I have a 120 minute buffer for pausing live TV. It's just an all around great experience for those who have a PC and 360, not to mention I actually own my equipment and save about $180/year by not having to rent
    a cablebox.

  5. Fixed, but it took awhile. I was using a PC with Nvidia graphics card. I updated drivers before trying to add the XBox as extender. Nvidia's package loaded a "hidden firewall". Once I deleted all of the excess Nvidia "stuff", I was immediately able to
utilize XBox as WMC Extender and play recorded and live TV, including DRM.

Try outlining your problem and post on The Green Button. Users there were helpful, although didn't solve my problem. Hopefully your problem isn't as arcane as mine.

I never had any problem playing back recorded TV though the system media player, what format* are you recording it in?

More great news if this is true!

Family share is not DRM. DRM is not a feature. Nor are they dependent on each other.
