Xbox 360 and Xbox one external storage.

Hi

- My old 360 stores only 20 GB and has been full for quite a while now so I bought a 2TB external hard drive for my 360 console as I was thinking this will be heaps to put all future free for gold games etc on in the one place instead of having several
USB sticks, as I have now, and trying to revisit/find which game is on which stick but when I look at the 360 hard drive storage, after connecting and configuring on the 360, it shows only 29 GB free.

Does anyone there know why? I hope you can help thanks.

Another question does anyone there know if you can store xbox one and xbox 360 games on the same USB 3 external hard drive?

Xbox One "Unlikely to support external storage at launch"

"The future plan is definitely to support external storage," says Major Nelson

Xbox Live director of programming Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb said on his latest podcast: "The Xbox One will ship with a 500GB hard drive, all of them have that. The future plan is definitely to support external storage, much like we do on the Xbox 360. My understanding is that feature will not be there at launch because the team's working on some other things, but it's definitely on the list, I don't know when it'll come in though."

Xbox One head of product planning Albert Penello said in May that the console will have a non-removable 500GB hard drive. External storage solutions will be used through the console's USB 3.0 port.Click to expand...

Sorry but the Xbox 360 is limited to up to two USB devices at a time at a max of 32GB of storage per device. You should consider purchasing an official Xbox 360 hard drive at a larger size for your games and downloads.

As for the storage device, you cannot store games from both systems on the same device. You can, however, use the 2TB drive (so long as it is USB 3.0 compatible) on your Xbox One for storage.

You can only use 32GB of any external hard drive's space as Xbox 360 storage. As for media storage you can use anything up to 2TB. Some people claim you cannot use more than that because of the format needing to be FAT32 but I actually use a 4TB portable
hard drive as my media storage on my Xbox and it works just fine. The key is for it not only to be formatted in FAT32 but also a cluster size of 32 Kb. This however bypasses the configuration on the Xbox's end thus not allowing you to allocate 32GB as Xbox
storage. I happen to have a 250GB HD in my Xbox and therefore do not require the additional 32GB of storage so I have chosen to use my 4TB as a media drive and YES it does indeed work.

Okay a little confusing but here's how it works. When any External Device be it a HDD or Flash Drive is used as a Storage Device (Memory for the Xbox 360), the Xbox 360 will only recognize it as such (a Storage Device) via the
USB. In short, a really huge External HDD becomes a 16Gb (Max) Storage Device from USB.

Some Games and some Features of Xbox LIVE require an Official MS Xbox 360 HDD that is for that particular Xbox 360 Console (ie Slim with Slim HDD). Simply using an External HDD will not work for these cases. Any External Storage Device is meant to supplement,
not replace an Official HDD or the performance of one that some Games and Features require.

Could your friend be talking about an external hard drive with an Xbox One. You can use an external usb 3.0 hard drive with that console, but you can only use external storage upto 32gb on an xbox 360.
