    Xbox 360 and packet errors

I have an Xbox 360 Slim at home and a rather robust network setup. Keeping it simple, my xbox is hard wired to an HP ProCurve 24-port switch. Only device on the network that has this issue, however my monitoring software is always unhappy because the xbox
is causing what HP calls "Received Packet with Error" errors. Only device on my network with this issue. Can anyone explain the cause for this or potential resolution?

    Thanks.

    Steve

Are you having Streaming Issues? Many people are...

well i am sitting hear on amazon streaming Anthony Bourdain no reservations on amazon with no issues. i was on netflix earlier watching tosh.o and that 70 show.

i am sure people have issues with netfix/amazon/hulu.. we all do from time to time. it is usually a maintance issue with one of the providers in my case.

the way i look at it is the xbox is the same as your cable box.. it takes the packets of info unwraps them and puts them in the designated place... if its not getting the rite packets it throws an error..

i have more issues with bf4 and their serves than netflix/hulu/amazon.

Slow down internet = Speed up mw3

It looks to me like you prioritized your XBox 360 network packets -- ie. speeding them up. If you want to slow the packets down, you'll need to add your other network devices to the QoS list and set their priority to high while keeping the 360 IP address
at medium or low. Then the XBox 360 network packets would be on the back end (slow).

Run a Network Statistics test in your Xbox settings. If you're experiencing packet loss, then it could be an issue with an Ethernet cable, the switch, or anything from your Xbox, to the modem, especially if the Xbox is the only device experiencing issues.

Thanks for the reply. It is NOT the network cable. No way no how. Just kidding. It's run thru the wall so hoping that's not it. Can't run a new one.

I tried changing to 100/Full and 100/Half on the switch but that didn't help.

When I ran the network diagnostics, one time I got 1% packet loss. Second time 0%.

I'll try another port first which probably won't help, and then I guess try redoing the RJ45 connectors. Maybe they didn't pin out right or something.

If they didn't pin out right then you would be getting more issues, although if you can't get a direct connection to test it there's nothing else I can really suggest.

Thanks for the reply. I tried replacing one of the RJ45 connectors but still doing this. Odd item. I have three xbox 360's in the house and multiple of the same Switch. The Xbox 360 in another part of the house that communicates thru a different one
of the same switch has the same issue. I was thinking maybe the network cable was to long on the other one but this second one the cable is about 6 feet.

Try to add a manual DNS:

    Primary: 8.8.8.8. Secondary: 8.8.4.4

First reset the Network settings to Factory default and then try the DNS...

    Hope this helps.

DNS lookup has nothing to do with this.

Using a lot of switches can present issues, because it's difficult to narrow what the issue can be. I do suggest grabbing a Windows based laptop, and setting up your virtual WiFi adaptor. Enable Internet Connection Sharing, and use your laptop as a "router"
essentially. If everything checks out, it's a hickup somewhere on your network.

    Edit:

If it is a network hickup, there's not much I can do without knowing the specific structure. Though, you can use a utility like WallWatcher to sniff packets to see where exactly they're dropping off to narrow down the possibilities. This can be helpful,
especially if you have a complicated and/or large network to deal with. Depending on the quality/length of your RJ45 cables, there could be some kinks or signal degradation somewhere, despite a link being established at any given speed. You could also test
large file transfers in Windows between Windows to Windows networks to see if there's any issues with that, though keep in mind SMB is pretty limited, especially when using different versions (Windows 10, say vs Windows 7, which uses an older version of SMB
    protocol).
