I would say first port of call should be to check your controller firmware is up to date. Check out this Troubleshoot issues

Have you removed the device in the Bluetooth settings?

Connect the controller once to the Xbox and then connect it back to your MacBook and it should work.

its probably ur controller getting out of range

Try a reboot on the console

1. Press and hold for 30 seconds the xbox button on the console it should turn off auto

2. Wait after shuts down to turn it on after a few second with the controller button

It should the issue.
