xbox 1 will not acknowledge headset is plugged in.

We bought an xbox 1 for son for Christmas. He was given Turtle Beach Recon 50 headset as a gift as well.

He has been using both together with no problem. Worked thru Wed. Feb. 13 fine. Turned on Feb. 14 and will not

acknowledge headset plugged in. Shows a muted mic on top right of screen. Tried headset on phones and ipad and headset works fine. Ordered a new controller, arrived today Feb. 17. Same muted mic, headset will not work. Have tried updating headsets (both
of them) and no updates available. Is there supposed to be an update for the console? I have seen others post online that they have had this issue going back at least a year. Please help!

Well I bought an adapter and plugged it into the controller, then plugged the headset into the adapter. And it works. Thank goodness. Sad that this is happening.

Try performing a hard reset EXACTLY like this. Hold the power button on the console for 8 seconds or until the power shuts down completely.
Unplug the power cord from the back of the console for 5 minutes.
Plug the power cord back in and restart the console.

If that doesn't work consider purchasing one of the adapters for the controller. That seems to resolve these issues. I use an adapter and don't have any issues.

tried the hard reset as well. tried a friend's headset that is different brand and did not work.

hesitant to spend more $ on adapter with not guarantee it will work
