Xbox 1 s connected to internet, but multiplayer connection and speed& statistics fails

I had my xbox working fine at my flat and moved it to another house over an hour or so journey. I tried to set it up, and everything was fine, but i noticed the internet was slow. It usually is slow here where I am now, but can still load youtube videos in 2160p and download speeds on a network test on my tablet were mid. I couldn’t connect to anything online. I reset my xbox, doing multiple resets and there was no change.

I logged into my Microsoft account by using a hotspot and it worked almost instantly, so im pretty sure now its not a hardware failure as it could get a download and upload speed there. I am on IPv4 which I know isnt ideal, but im pretty sure it was fine. Also want to mention I was at this house using the internet fine a few months ago, nothing should have changed.

Ive tried at off-peak times, disconnecting devices, still the same things - a network connection works, but the “Test network speed and statistics” takes ages, then shows upload and download speeds as well as MTU as “Not Available”, with 100% wireless strength. Additionally, “test multiplayer connection” just gives me “Can’t finish multiplayer tests”. The latency is weirdly high, but at least my packet loss is 0%. Im guessing thats because no packets were sent, so no packet collisions could even happen.

The only things i havent tried relate to my router, and i havent mainly because it should be exactly the same as before when it worked and every other device in the house has excellent connection strengths and speeds (this was originally why I thought it could be a hardware failure).

Other than that, im pretty much out of options, its clear my network doesn’t like my xbox, just why? Theres no age restrictions, if age were something that would even matter, my Wi-Fi just seems to hate my xbox.

Honestly just posting this to see if im not alone, i dont expect anyone to have an answer outside of “Turn the console off and on again”. I know its a legitimate option for the router, but its not that easy, so I dont want to resort to that yet

    :)

Thank you for the quick response. At this point, i need to try stuff with the router it seems, so I’ll move onto that and come back with an update soon. I did try changing the DNS, only to the google one, but still same thing. I also thought of setting up a Wi-Fi hotspot, but with my devices I have it doesn’t look easy.

Thank you again and I’ll let you know if I can change anything really.

    UPDATE:

I bought an xbox series s and the same thing was happening.

Sorry to anyone who’s time I wasted, but it worked after i reset my router (my dad who wont let me touch it left the house). It probably also works on my xbox 1.

Sorry again, really specific problem with a not very specific solution.

Hi JAplin! My name is Ricardo an independent advisor ready to help you with this situation!

If the console was working previously on the same network and the console works still on a different network, the situation must be related to the router/modem

If you still don't wanna try things related to the network devices you could try changing console dns

Ways to bypass this could be tht Instead of connecting the console to the router you share the network from a Pc, steps here

Also thank you for the suggestion. I have made progress in cancelling out options, but they make little sense. Firstly, yes the Wi-Fi is the correct one, the provider has a service where you can see which devices are connected to it and how many connections it has made. The Xbox showed up with 5 connections (a normal number).

I have tried using Ethernet now, same issues, same error messages. My mobile data i have confirmed works at completing updates, loading online games, etc. I have tried alternate DNS’, reset Mac addresses, set up ports, no help. I have confirmed it is an issue specifically between my internet provider and my Xbox and only those two.

I have not yet, but its one of my few plans left, tried connecting to another household’s internet, but im quickly running out of options at this point.

*Edit: its not easy, but ive found a way to play a few online games and they play very fast actually. The other games I was trying required updates and thats where I think the problem is. No updates are currently working (and still a few online games dont work, im assuming because they are doing downloads as well.). When i try them, im doing one download at a time with no games in the background. I think this is the main issue, but still the updates are fine with a hotspot so im more confused than anything.
