Xbox 1 Kinect Calibration

What is everyone's experience with using their Kinect for voice/party/game chat?

My HP Pavilion dv6 (runs W7 64-bit home version, has intel core i5) has a dual mic system built into it (two tiny holes either side of the web game) and I can easily calibrate the mic on my HP Pavilion dv6 go to Sound, Recording, I click on Integrated Microphone
array, right click on it and go to Properties, click on Levels tab, and it has two sliders, Microphone Array, and Microphone Boost. It can easily pick up me even if I place my laptop on the other side of my bedroom 4 metres away. But my Kinect I don't think
it may hears me when I clap loud I hear the microphone symbol light up when I'm playing Forza 5 or Minecraft.

I think Microsoft should add this feature which my laptop has, to the Dashboard. Be able to adjust the listening levels using sliders like on my laptop. I think it will greatly help control the microphone listening levels. I have tried calibration a few
times. What should I do during the calibration test? I sit about 3-4 metres away from my TV/console. If I have kind of a quiet-ish voice and sit 3-4 metres away during the test should I play my TV speakers volume at Maximum level (without saying it's too loud)
or Minimum level (without it saying speakers are too low)? I'm asking this now since your 12 month warranty on your Xbox One will expire 22 November 2014 for Day One buyers. Even if it picks up back ground noise I don't mind. I know there are several Kinect
settings on Xbox 1's Dashboard. I have never used the mic which came with my console I prefer for now to use my Kinect. I do have turtle beach x42 but don't want to get a chat adaptor yet. I use my turtle beach x42 for chat on 360 but for Xbox 1 I mainly only
use it at night so that no one hears me gaming.

The official Kinect Calibration card was taken down from there store. (Used to be at:

http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Kinect-Calibration-Card/productID.253690200). Microsoft has always recommended not using copies as the calibration might not work but there is no longer a product on the store available to purchase.

With this in mind there are a few options:

1) Check a local game retailer for any extras they'd be willing to give or sell from previous displays

2) Check an online site (i.e. ebay)

3) Print an unofficial copy (http://www.covergalaxy.com/forum/microsoft-xbox-360/11500-kinect-calibration-card.html) with the caveat that it
might not properly calibrate.

I know these are not the most ideal options but they are currently the only ones available. Hope this helps!

Same here...goes directly to microphone calibration when clicking the ''kinect moved'' calibration option

 

I only use it for voice and it works like 97% of the time, first time. I don't use it as a mic unless it's upload studio. It does work really well with Alien Isolation and D4 though.

 

its all the calibration... and how well to the "natural" setting it is... I know they say turn up the sound... but that seems to be only for rookies to it... after a year.. I can speak to mine like it is a human and I no longer sound like a robot on Quaalude's.

I have gone days without using the controller...

One issue people seem to have is giving the wrong command.. and I made that mistake at first... saying Xbox do this and then trying to say do that without an Xbox command...

When in doubt... Xbox SELECT is your friend

 

I recalibrate regularly and it works about 99% of the time. That 1% is when my kids are talking also when I try to give a command. I also use the voice studio app to help MS improve the experience also.

 

99% of the time it works flawless, and the 1% it doesn't is because someone else is talking, as RippenHarra has mentioned. For Skype I use the Kinect. Games I use the Headset just so people in the household don't hear randoms talking/swearing. When it first
came out Galactic Geek would use it and I would hear my voice being echoed back to me, and that cleared up with a few calibrations on his end.

I have a sound bar that runs the length of the bottom of my TV...until I moved the kinect above the TV I had problems, now it works great.

 

I might look into getting an HDTV Kinect mount. Trade Me NZ might have them I don't think EB and JB Hi Fi or DSE sell even 3rd party Kinect mounts. My Kinect sits near my HDTV's 2x 10w speakers (it's a Sony KDL40EX720) that may be why it's not registering
my voice as easily but still it should be picking up the background noise. I might try a few more calibrations. I've heard some peps have turned their's in for warranty because the Kinect was too sensitive at picking up their voice. I wish I had one of those
Kinect which was that sensitive. Even my HP Pavilion dv6's built in microphone system (2 dots the size of pen dots) does a really good job at picking up my voice and background noise even from 4 metres away.

2 days ago I got the TV Clip For XB ONE Kinect 2 a seller on Trade Me NZ was selling it for only $13.99 courier was only $6 I got it when I got home this afternoon and wow my Kinect is picking me up wayyyyyyy better now when I did another calibration and
played on Minecraft and checked my mic in the game. I can't believe I went 11 months without an HDTV mount for my Kinect. It's better sitting on top of my Sony 40' KDL40EX720 because it was sitting at the bottom of my TV where the 2x 10w sound bar for my TV
