Xbox 1 first time turning on

So I went and bought the Xbox 1 s today. And went home and plugged it in and turned it on. And the forst green screen that has the Xbox logo pops up, and then 3 little dots below it like a loading thing comes up. And it's been like that for about 4 hours
now. Is this normal? I have not been able to use the controller at all, not set anything up, it's still just loading at the very first screen. I don't think it's frozen because the 3 dots are still moving. But good Lord it's taking forever. Was it like this
for everyone else? Or did I buy a broken brand new xbox?

Try first turning your TV on, then switch to the input where your xbox is connected to ( HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc. ) and then turn on the xbox.

I've checked your gamertag and you're ovi not new to Xbox, so why would you leave your new console at the boot screen for FOUR hours, knowing intrinsically that there was a problem? First recourse would be to unplug the machine and try a reboot. The green
screen is normal, but it shouldn't hang there. Either your "new" console isn't new or you've been sold a dud. If you're still getting a green screen after rebooting, I'd suggest you return it to the store!

 

I'm not new to Xbox, but I am new to Xbox 1. I had the Xbox 360, but haven't played in 3 years because I bought the ps4. Then decided to buy the Xbox 1. And I bought it at Wal-Mart. I didn't think there was something necessarily wrong, just figured maybe
since it's been out so long, maybe there was a whole bunch of updates it was doing? Thank you for feedback though. I'll try to unplug it and see what happens.

 

Have you tried performing a hard reset on your console?

 

There will be an update but no way should the 3 dots be there for 4 hours,10-20 seconds at the most.

It's either a problem with your connection to live or it's a faulty console.

You can try a hard reset by holding down the power button on the front of the console until it turns off,unplugging it from the mains for a few minutes then plugging it back in & starting it up again.

 

I'd take it back to Wal-Mart. It doesn't install any updates until after that green screen. No sense messing about, just exchange it if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

 

The worst part about giving advice around here is when the OP fails to follow up. Whether or not our comments made a difference, the least they could do is check back in or update the thread. That way, if a similar problem occurs for anybody else, they *might*
just benefit from hearing how the problem got resolved. (sigh)

 

Sorry guys, I forgot to check back. I got it to work! I unplugged it, and plugged it back in, then it start up just like normal. Have no idea why the thing did that the first time, but I haven't had a problem with it since! Thanks guys!
