    XBox 1 black screen no menu


    Kid has come home and trying to play games on our ancient Xbox 1. We have used it for watching TV so it has been working.

    Today, we turned it on to play a game and are faced with the BSOD. We have tried rebooting, hard reboot, and booting to safe mode but none of these options have worked. We cannot use the factory reset because we cannot get to the menu.

    We have a connection to the TV which rules out HDMI or other video issues.

    We can only access the reboot screen which has the “turn off console”, “turn off controller”, “restart console”, and “ report a problem”. “Report a problem” froze while collecting information after 20 minutes. Trying to magnify or screen read did not change our options.

    Essentially, the XBox boots and has video but the shell does not.

    Thank you! Booting from the USB drive allowed us to get to XBox Startup Error E101. From there, we were able to reset the console using the D-pad and A buttons. It is now downloading the 4.4g update. Successfully rebooted during update process. Reboot was 12 minutes ago but still progressing. We used XBox mobile to speed the process up. “Checking For Your Settings”

    If you continue to have nothing displayed after a full reset doible check to make sure your display is working properly and that the appropriate resolutions are being utilized between the console and your display.
