My daughter got an xbox onex for christmas which has just arrived.

We cant get it to work on our samsung series 7 smart tv. It says it cant detect a signal.

I think it is the tv as we have got the xbox working on someone elses telly.

The HDMI input socket options on our telly are labelled

    1. STB

    2. DVI

    3 ARC

    4 MHL

Which, if any of these, should we use.

Do i need some kind of adaptor to get this working on our tv.

    Any suggestions?

    :)

Hi there! Do you know what the specific model of TV is that you have? I'd like to do a little more research on specifically what's happening with those labels to provide more help. Cheers!

Hi, iam sorry to hear that but the best to use is HDMI input.

Additionally, I didn't know this before your post, but I looked up what those acronyms stand for and do on TVs:

STB - Set Top Box: intended for your cable/satellite box

DVI - Digital Video Input: This would be for connecting devices that on the other end have a DVI port, using a DVI-HDMI cable

ARC - Audio Return Channel: Offers a two-way communication method between devices for a single HDMI connection

MHL - Mobile High-Definition Link: used for connecting compatible tablets, smart phones and other devices

What specific situations they would all be used for, I'm not sure entirely, but can guess at a few, such as the ARC port going to an Audio Receiver to control volume of the device using the TV remote? Anyways, they're all HDMI and would work normally given
the standard, particularly with the Xbox One. If you can I'd recommend using the STB or MHL port, mostly because those make the most sense for the designation.

    Hi ChrisGreaves1,

There could be many reasons for this, I’ll make a list and you can then check each of these:

    1. Bad Cable — Try another cable
    2. Make sure you have connected the Xbox One to HDMI out port. The Xbox One has two HDMI ports, only one of them provides an output signal. The other one doesn’t.
    3. Make sure your TV is set to the correct input. Most TVs offer multiple HDMI ports. Make sure that your TV’s input is set to the one you plugged your Xbox One into.
    4. If your TV is set to the correct HDMI port and no image is present, try a different HDMI port on your TV. Some TV ports are designed for advanced signal types that the Xbox One is not providing (or vice versa).
    5. Bad TV HDMI port? Try a different port. Sometimes ports go bad.
    6. Ensure the cables are fully inserted into the port. A partially inserted cable may not display a picture.
    7. If you’re trying for a 4K image, make sure your HDMI cable is designed to support 4K.
    8. If you’re able to see the Xbox One dashboard, but the content won’t display, you’ll need to enable HDCP on your TV. TV and Movie content is usually protected and needs to have HDCP enabled. Games are usually not HDCP enabled.
If all of the above fails, you may need or try with the specific cables you quoted above or to contact Samsung to get support for your TV.
