XBL free month code on top of existing gold account?

Does anyone know if using a 1 month free code just overlaps on an existing gold account or will it add an extra month to the end of your current subscription?

Beginning as early as mid-January 2015, depending on your existing Xbox Live subscription type, we will either apply the one month of Xbox Live Gold directly to your account or send a redeemable token via the Xbox One message center. In either case, we
will send a confirmation via the in-console message center, so please check it regularly.

This sounds to me like those with Xbox Live Free get a code, and those with an existing XBL Gold subscription get a direct extension/application of the free month of Gold. Perhaps Microsoft is extending everyone's Gold membership first, and then sending
the codes later to those with XBL Free. Would be easier, I suppose.

 

1 Month Xbox Live Gold with new purchases of XB1?

The 1 month free on 360 was for new accounts up to (I think) 3 accounts. So if you use your existing account no more than likely not, although if you start a new one probably so (at least a trial of XBL Gold, dunno on length).

 

It usually just adds on to you current subscription if it is a prepaid code. Not sure if you can do it if your existing membership is payed credit card though as auto renew comes into play.

 

A paid for code will add to your account, a free trial code will not.

Yes it should add to your existing subscription.

Any xbox live subscription code will stack onto the current subscription with a maximum of 36 months (as far as I know). Unlike any trials they will not stack
