  1. XB1L Player review system

Good evening all. I'm sure by reading the title, some people will already know what I'm going to express in this post. So for clarity I'll simply outline what the purpose is to post.

    • To make aware to customers/players of Xbox Live on my personal experience and views with this review system.
    • To also reiterate a matter that isn't really getting looked at with much obvious importance, as scanning the net (Noted some Reddit "megathread" also), it's apparent I'm not the only person who've gotten rather shafted and in turn annoyed over the effects
of this system which it's been a ongoing issue.
    - I've read that this reputation system has even been disabled for one of the Halo games; if this is true, then clearly it's not got much competency altogether.. no?

Sure I know the project managers wont be seeing this post but, the more fuss made, the more likely the matter gets looked at in a whole outlook and more importantly with some interest,

Lastly to this intro/outlining. I am aware it's just a console and games, not a importance in life. What I found annoying and a complete joke is the resulting effects and also principles of what should be a quality service.

    Anyway...

Let's get to my experience, as it'll be an honest one.

It starts on a rated 18+ game about May 2016 time. A man is trying to throw me out of my vehicle on the game and then messages me calling me profanities and I gave the same back. Didn't report the chap, he reported me and I got a 24 hour mute on all communications
    on the Xbox Live Services.

    - Life goes on, any form of appealing this wasn't even an obvious matter, so no attempt was made.

I get back into my racing phase, always been an avid racer on games since the age of 4, Forza 6. Alright game, can't use certain R class vehicles in R class lobbies and the drifting lines are a bit dodgy but none the less it is a favorite of mine on the
console. Then i learnt at how petty and vindictive the lobbies are.

If people want to sit there and make me out to be a cheater for returning every "favour" they do on me, back at them and whinge about it then crack on, just like life you'll always get those immature people who can't accept their own actions, mistakes or
responsibilities, so they try and take those things out on the first person they come into contact to /on a game/ and know full well *that if a player is reported enough times then their reputation will change and that gets rid of their regular competition*
and I'd take it on the chin if it didn't prevent me from playing any game online on Xbox Live.

All it is now to me is a waste of money. I can't even do the things that Microsoft offer to do, to amend this issue - play games. GTA, BF4, Forza 6, etc. Main title games *that I paid for and also continually pay to bleeding play* are not playable as I'll
be either unable to find players or lobbies or simply be told my reputation isn't sufficient enough. What I'm here to say is don't waste hundreds of pounds, euros or dollars on Xbox products if you're the sort of person who will have a spine towards other
people and don't appreciate the lack of respect others give out as it's entirely bias on your defense or ability. Don't be too good at games on Xbl because there could be others who want to spam your profile with childish hate and "report" posts and intend
to bring a players image to others down. Which can be clearly seen to become a snowball affect when people can click on and see "NEEDS WORK" or "AVOID PLAYER" - "oh well this guy must be bang to rights as it says these things"

If it was a free service then I'd not really give a toss.. But when you've paid 8 years worth of membership, umpteen amount of games, DLC's and a few consoles plus accessories it's an utter p***take to find within 3 months of game-play that a select number
of vindictive gamers ruined it. What kept me with Microsoft and Xbox was the longevity of my account and the accolades that I had earned from staying with the same manufacturer and service for almost a decade. Without that, and instead left with a disgraceful
experience of the services because of a *minority in the user-base* it doesn't really encourage me to stay with the service.

Upon that I'd be interested to know how many other long time users will of experienced what I have and decided to leave XBL and in effect stop coughing up money to their business, which never used to be an issue until now.. None the less, thanks for reading.
Judge from my experience as you choose to.

    :)

Player Review System not exactly working.

My player review system isn't working well.

I cannot count how many people are leaving or lagging out of games, or teamkilling/teamviolent, yet they appear with me in the very next game. Nor can I believe how many annoying persons whom I have muted because in the past I didn't want to hear their dysfunctional
microphone, rap music blaring, high-pitched squaker absurdities, or other problems with people who just don't understand communication is supposed to be a two-way street.

I work a lot on my player review, a good way to get out frustrations without doing a complaint that wasn't merited. However, I feel like it isn't working for me, regardless of how much I put into it...

  3. Player Review System not exactly working.

"Major Nelson recently explained how the reputation system works in a new Xbox 101 video that appeared on Inside Xbox. Apparently there were many questions about what the stars under your gamertag were for. When you register a new gamertag on Xbox LIVE,
you start off with a three star rep. This is the default "neutral" reputation. Supposedly, as other players leave positive or negative reviews on you, your star rating will either go up or down to reflect if people like playing with you or if they tend to
    avoid you.

Having previously written an article on the reputation system, I decided to revisit the subject and put rep to the test myself. I created two new gamertags to test whether or not player reviews and reputation actually worked. On one name I was very polite
and teamwork-oriented while on the other name, I hoarded power weapons, drove erratically in vehicles, and teabagged opponents after killing them. After thirty-five games on each name, the results were surprising.

The "good" name was 100% preferred though this was probably only one or two positive reviews as most gamers don't bother wasting time leaving positive reviews of other players. This is actually one of the major faults with the reputation system as it claims
that the positive number is an accumulation of those who either preferred you or did not leave a review. If it actually counted players who did not review you, the avoided numbers would be insanely low because how many hundreds of players does the average
gamer encounter online daily? This wouldn't be a problem if it didn't claim to count people who did not leave any feedback. Despite this glowing percentage, I was still stuck at only three stars. My rep had not moved.

Oddly enough, the "bad" name was a whopping 90% avoided (again, this isn't to say 90% of all players, only 90% that left a review) and 10% preferred but had worked its way up to over four stars in rating. Why did the rep rating of the gamertag that got avoided
go up? This is the exact opposite result of what should have happened. It makes absolutely no sense and this would seem to indicate that the star rating is completely useless in determining the actual conduct of the gamer. Although I never used the headset
on this name at all, I received several negative reviews for "trash talking" and "disruptive voice" which goes to show that many gamers do not even honestly review a player but simply pick something from the list they think they will be most harmful to their
    reputation.

But what of player reviews? According to the Xbox 101 video and the description of the rep system, avoiding another player will make it less likely for you to be matched up against them in the future. This also did not seem to be true as it was not uncommon
to see players that I avoided (on either name) again in matchmaking during a future session or even later in the same day. This was on Halo 3 so there were tens of thousands of players online at any given time. With such a huge player pool, there really is
no excuse for me to be matched again with someone I have already avoided.

Based on these findings, the Xbox LIVE reputation system is severely flawed and does not tell you anything about a player's actual reputation in the community. It seems that your star rating simply increases proportionally with the number of people who review
you whether they leave positive or negative feedback. The more feedback received, the higher the star rating. Have you ever seen a rep under three stars? Leaving feedback on another player also seems to have no effect on whether or not you will be paired up
with them in matchmaking again despite claims to the contrary.

As it stands, player reviews are only good for two things. The first is trying to make someone else feel bad when they notice they have a high percentage of avoids. Many gamers who troll on LIVE take pride in this number though so ultimately it becomes pointless
and a complete waste of time. The second is that it allows you, as the reviewer, to feel better when you believe someone has wronged you. This renewed attitude will be short-lived, however, when you notice you are in yet another game with a player you have
    previously avoided."

this should explain that it's not only you with a problem on the player REP.

    Hope this helped!

Thanks Johns AssassinV2, I had previously been literally lied to by a XBLA, so it is refreshing to hear the truth.

Thanks for the encouragement Mr. BongKaos.

I hope to also become a XBLA one day to help in constantly improving the community.

Why I Think The REP System Is Flawed

The rep system is used to try and avoid or put you in games with players. If you don't want to play with someone you give them a negative review and the system will try to not match you with that player again. The opposite for positive review, the system
will try and match you with that player in the future. Generally the player population is large enough that neither option really comes into play.

As for the stars, you'll get stars for negative reviews. I've left negative reviews and it caused the players stars to go up. I believe it's based on time played in online multiplayer and reviews. No one else can see your "rep" other than the stars, which
seem to be meaningless( I have 39% avoided - 75% from trash talking and I don't use a mic in general play).

    Just a question

You're allowed to give a player as many bad reviews as you want, but only one those reviews will be recognized by the system. The rest of the time you're just wasting your time.

In order for that player to have their reputation affected by bad reviews, there needs to be a consensus of multiple users rather than one person giving multiple reviews.
