@Vaynel, pretty sure you are correct, but either it is already built into the software, or the OS's handles the data differently than a PC does because my X1 still runs about the same as it did at launch.

  2. Would be a simple thing to add in a software update. (Defrag/disk cleanup) If nothing else it would make a lot of people including me feel better to have that option when I think it's running slow or the game becomes a little glitchy. Just add the option
already MS, Wouldn't hurt anything, make everyone that believes it is needed happy. Happy costumers = positive comments to potential costumers and that = more sales of XBOX ONE, correct!?

Xbox 1 runs on a custom operating system by Microsoft suited for the Xbox 1 console. So I don't think it needs to be exactly like a PC OS like Windows 7 or later versions which have a FIREWALL and defrag and system restore stuff.

Your insane to think that ANY file system doesn't need to be defragged especially NTFS, it is one of the most cluttered HDD abusive file systems. Why do you think MS been looking to replace it for years. Time and time again it is proven that a nice clean
easily accessed HDD is far faster than a cluttered one and the HDD will last much longer. Not saying it needs all the time but say after you install 4 or 5 games, remove them add others and such it will be needed.

Since we are not hearing from MS on this or any one that really knows, none of your opinions count, then neither does mine.

I would assume that there is disk cleanup and defrag built into the console software that .......you guessed it runs on Windows as an interface.

Xbox One is a console. It was designed to prevent the fragmentation you believe is happening. Performance slowdowns of the UI may simply be too many background processes open (something a cold boot fixes).

I haven't defragmented a volume since the days of Windows 98. There's no need to with NTFS if you don't abuse your HDDs by filling them to capacity. For SSDs, there's never a need to defragment (and it's bad for the underlying NAND).

As for that DR3 demo, I believe it's more of a case of your account "owning that demo". Just like if I do a factory reset to my Windows Phone 8, it will automatically reinstall (if I want to) all the apps I had previously installed, cos all the information
of the apps I have installed is saved on the cloud.

    .

Same when I went to my moms place and logged to my MS-account on her Windows 8 laptop, it automatically offered to install all the same apps I have installed on my Windows 8 PC and tablet.

    .

So I would figure it's just this and there would be no remnants of DR3 actually on the harddrive after a factory reset.

    .

But yes, I do agree that we need some HDD management tools (at least to see free space etc), but I'm sure they are coming.
