Ok so we have new hdd,8gb of ram,its plain knoweledge a form of defraggin is gonna be necesarry at some point,so does anyone know if it automatically does it?because hard reboots aint the fix which is becomeing the 1st thing thatvis suggested when coming
up with issues,or even lack of knoweledge about the xbox ones system,iv had several "issues" now where it was just lack of knoweledge and even down to conversing with the support team, together plenty has been discovered.

    -

Ive started to notice now that when running multiplayer games, going back n forward to the UI and for example looking through achievements while waiting for the next match to start,a bit of slowness, same with snapping the party whilst in game,my pc knoweledge
tells me a defrag is needed,a disk clean(HDD), all the tiny packets of info the build up on your pcs hard drive that cause general slowness can be fixed at the touch of a button.so where is the option for the xbox one?it aint there I know..so is it automatic?surely
this hard reboot is not the 'its the only semi fix we have at present?'...when are we gonna have more information straight from MS on this, its 2 months now and if it hits 3 month without no sign of defrag or disk clean tool,so many possible issues are gonna
arise especially for those who have lots of games and use the xbox1 to its maxium of what it has got on it other than games.

    :)

    A new volume bar

I connected my 360 and left my tv volume at the same level I had it on with my xb1and it sounds correct so it's definitely and xb1 issue. Hopefully, someone will answer this I've asked about five questions in about five years and not one has been answered
    by Microsoft.

As far as I understand it your gold account is for your gamertag and any other tags on that system. So I would assume as long as your gamertag was on both you'd only need the one Gold membership.

    xb1and defragging.

the xbox one like the 360 has a different file system and the harddrive is formatted differently, there should be no need to defrag. so you think you know that it needs defragging yet Microsoft who built the darn thing don't, Microsoft know what there doing.

  5. Im well aware that MS have a certain clue on what they are doing, but rushing a disk drive into a console at the last minute without months and months of testing, says the otherwise.and you cannot deny it was a rushed decision.you cannot compair the 360 with
    the xbox one.

I'm pretty sure there was nothing rushed about including HDD into the device, an optical disc drive then again has nothing to do with fragmentation on the HDD xb1and defragging. :p

  7. Are we on the same page?HDD is the storage yes,Disk drive is what you put disk into the xbox 1,they did rush the disk drive into the xbox one its commen knoweledge.Your basic defrag tool, checks the base areas for cluter and related counterparts, and if you
have a disk drive, not storage, that isnt fully tested on a system you are gonna run into all sorts of palava.I can only go by what I am seeing, and our xbox one is pretty much on and being used for everything by 4 profiles evetyday since launch.I thought it
be interesting to discuss, and save a phone call. xb1and defragging. :) and not to xbox support sadly.

I'm not very tech sawwy, but I still don't see what does a rushed disc drive have to do with fragmentation on the HDD? I'm pretty sure defragmentation is primarly caused by totally other things than the disc drive.

    .

To my knowledge the most typical scenario of fragmentation comes when the system has to install a bigger file into smaller gaps that previously held smaller, now likely moved or deleted files. What defragging does is that it physically reoganizes the HDD
so that the relevant files are stored together rather than in the previously left gaps.

    .

Sure, rushed anything can cause issues, but it's quite a long shot to say that cos they were still reconsidering whether to even add an optical drive fairly late, it would be the cause of fragmentation on the OS..

    .

That said, I've been primarily computer user for decades now and I don't think I've ever fully defragged my HDD, I was always too impatient to wait cos it took ages xb1and defragging. :p Which reminds me, I could try doing that now while I study and since I have a fairly new
installation of Windows at the moment, it shouldn't take too long xb1and defragging. :p

  9. Lol,yes it is one of those you have to wait things, and its not a thing you wanna do all the time, but to add aswel the way this cloud saving stuff,I still have the dr3 demo ready to install even after a factory reset, which says its linked to my profile, but
how much of that is leaving clutter in my 362gb of space on the internal hard drive.

Errors for example which the system just clears up and commpresses away, again more clutter on your harddrive.

And thats my point on the actual disk drive it is very possible that some form of clutter will arise,by no means do I not think the xbox 1 is an amazing, without a shadow of doubt the best bit of console tech we,ve seen In years, ive seen inside the thing, but
to resolve everything with just a system reboot,im finding it difficult to believe.

If im completely wrong then its even more awesome than I thought. This lack of control on our xb1 harddrive and the minimal information we have got on the internal workings of the xbox 1,if they did something about it,itcwould ease my concerns.

I can system reboot today and it will sort this slowing issue, but how long befor it happens again,my xbox1 cetainly isnt fault.but with 16 games being played on it by all our family,my wife and kids using all the apps as wel as games, its being used to the
    max. xb1and defragging. :)

As for that DR3 demo, I believe it's more of a case of your account "owning that demo". Just like if I do a factory reset to my Windows Phone 8, it will automatically reinstall (if I want to) all the apps I had previously installed, cos all the information
of the apps I have installed is saved on the cloud.

    .

Same when I went to my moms place and logged to my MS-account on her Windows 8 laptop, it automatically offered to install all the same apps I have installed on my Windows 8 PC and tablet.

    .

So I would figure it's just this and there would be no remnants of DR3 actually on the harddrive after a factory reset.

    .

But yes, I do agree that we need some HDD management tools (at least to see free space etc), but I'm sure they are coming.

  11. Like my actual home laptop for example has 16 gb ram 1tb hdd 3.2processor,and I use windows 8 bitdefender total security 2013 for ease of use and quality, well worth the 80 quid at the time, but I have so many options forkeeping my laptop at peak perfomance, disk
clean, registary clean, defrag ect, ect,I find it hard to see where the xbox 1 with its ram and internal hdd,(why it wasnt an sdd I dont know, buts thats another conversation,)where and when and how do we keep the performance of it top notch.like ive had to factory
reset and bar fixing an issue,it ran seriously faster the first 4 days after that FR.

Xbox One is a console. It was designed to prevent the fragmentation you believe is happening. Performance slowdowns of the UI may simply be too many background processes open (something a cold boot fixes).

I haven't defragmented a volume since the days of Windows 98. There's no need to with NTFS if you don't abuse your HDDs by filling them to capacity. For SSDs, there's never a need to defragment (and it's bad for the underlying NAND).

    xb1and defragging.

Your insane to think that ANY file system doesn't need to be defragged especially NTFS, it is one of the most cluttered HDD abusive file systems. Why do you think MS been looking to replace it for years. Time and time again it is proven that a nice clean
easily accessed HDD is far faster than a cluttered one and the HDD will last much longer. Not saying it needs all the time but say after you install 4 or 5 games, remove them add others and such it will be needed.

Since we are not hearing from MS on this or any one that really knows, none of your opinions count, then neither does mine.

I would assume that there is disk cleanup and defrag built into the console software that .......you guessed it runs on Windows as an interface.

Xbox 1 runs on a custom operating system by Microsoft suited for the Xbox 1 console. So I don't think it needs to be exactly like a PC OS like Windows 7 or later versions which have a FIREWALL and defrag and system restore stuff.

  15. Isn't the One meant to have three operating systems?

The one we interact with. The one the games run on and an inbetween to let them talk to each other.

I'm sure I remember reading that the games actually run on a variation of Windows 8.
