XB1 Wireless controller intermittently disconnects, lose sound and vibration

I've had this problem for quite a while but it seems to be getting a lot worse for some reason. Weirdly, it only ever happens while playing online multiplayer, and not in a single player game.

The controller will intermittently lose connection with the console for a few seconds, the xbox button flashes then it reconnects. I also have headphones plugged into the audio jack, which will sometimes lose sound altogether when this happens. I can't hear
any "crack" or "pop" when I unplug and replug it which is normal. Sometimes it will also stop vibrating, but it doesn't happen often.

I've tried several solutions: taking the batteries out and putting them back in, replacing the batteries with fresh ones, unplugging and replugging the audio jack, checking my volume and other settings, going to the dashboard and back to the game (no sound
on the dashboard either).

The only thing that works is to quit the game completely then when I go to the dashboard the sound will come back.

This is very annoying as I now have to restart my game about twice an hour, or once every two or three matches.

Help with controller

Have you tried turning the controllers vibration off, sometimes it can effect the batteries.

Xbox Guide button (controller) > Settings > Preferences > Vibration > Disabled.

Xbox one controller disconnects when I lose connection to the internet

Does anyone else's xb1 controller disconnect when they lose xbox live connection? I just want to know if that is normal.

Really sorry to hear about the controllers troubles you're experiencing. Along with the steps you mentioned, have you possibly tested a different controller to see if there's any change with your connection disconnecting?

 

I have this same problem, only the controllers disconnect intermittently no matter what I'm doing. Both controllers do this. My internet research pointed to a failing wifi card inside the xbox one itself. Or, interference. I'll be turning off all WIFI networks
this evening to see if the problem persists. If it does I think I'm going to DIY a wifi card since warranty ended on my box in October 2016.

 

Hi, sorry I forgot to check back. It's been a little better lately, but I have gotten a new controller just today. Since I never know when exactly it will strike next, it might be a few hours or days before I can tell if the new one doesn't have the problem
or not.

I had one controller before my current one that also had similar problems towards the end of its life, but the killer for that was a different problem.

 

I'm not sure how a faulty wifi adaptor in the xbox could be causing the problem. It does only happen when I'm playing online games (which is very odd by itself) but I don't lose connection to the internet, and I'm sure the wireless controller uses bluetooth
to communicate with the xbox.

 

I've been using a new controller for almost two weeks now and only lost sound once but the controller didn't disconnect. I'm pretty sure it's okay now though, it's likely my old one developed a fault of some kind.
