XB1-S HDD started clicking had a spare 2TB to put in OS/Firmware reinstall?

So I decided to upgrade my Xbox one S internal drive from 500gb to 2TB... Reason 1 I can hear a slight clicking and will put money on it's the HDD. Reason 2 I have no space and wasted money on a 2TB USB 3.0 that will not work at all no matter what format,
hard reset, new partition, ECT ECT so I had a spare HDD laying around wiped it and installed it how do I make a recovery USB or is there files I need to preload onto the drive first any help much appreciated.

Yup...this is how next gen gaming is starting off.

Luckily there will be fixes down the road for the X1's HDD shortcomings.

PS4 has the same problem, but you can replace the HDD and put in say a 2TB HDD.

I just bought a caddy that had a fan in and added a spare 3tb HDD worked great

I've recommended the Fantom externals whenever a thread pops up here asking about external choices.

The reason they can give you that three year warranty is the aluminum case and the fact it's very well ventilated, heat is the HD killer and this handles it. If you plan on running games directly from an external I don't think you'll find a better option
than the Fantoms and they have even dropped in price since the One started offering external support.

It's good to know that works, docking stations can sometimes be recognized by an OS as an internal drive and I was concerned the One would try and boot from it.

I have one of these but haven't hooked it up yet do to lack of space and I'm still waiting for confirmation from MS that internal swaps won't cause your console to be banned, I'd prefer to go that route.
