XB1 plays AVI and MP4 files....

Among others but just not in a way you think. I still for the life of me don't know why they don't support them on a flashdrive or streaming over network with it's own app but I found a way to play them if your phone is connected to the same XB1 WIFI and
you have an android phone. I downloaded an app called allcast which streams files to the xbox one and they play without a hitch. Paired with a file explorer (such as es file explorer) that allows acces with a pc you can stream from your pc to the XB1 aswell.
Only files I have tried are AVI and MP4 which both work and MKV which does not.

Media Player Not showing MKV files.

The windows media player only plays some files. I can't figure out why some are available and others are not. Its weird. Some mp4's work some don't. Same thing with avi. Mkv's don't work at all.

Videos are in .avi and .mkv but i mostly tried .avi files. As about music its .mp3 or .mp4. It is the first time im trying to stream anything from XBOX360 WMC.

 

Give it time young Padewan. Live in the moment. DL video conversion software and problem solved.

 

I'm not saying that I can't play mkv files like its a problem. I'm just saying that if the XB1 can play avi and MP4 files...why not have an app that does it so I don't have to go through hoops to play home videos?

 

hmmm i wonder if i can stream xbmc through allcast.. interesting.. ICEFILMS FTW!
