XB1 'clicking' is this normal ?

Had some issues with my SE COD/AW console after about 4 hours of use. 41 days later my refurbished replacement showed up on my door step. I opened up the box to pull out a console with dings , nicks & scratches. After a few more calls and going above support
they agreed to send me out a 2nd refurbished console. That arrived the other day and on first fire up and makes a clicking noise. (see attached file)

E-mailed in and received this as a response .....

"I do know that there are occasional issues with new parts in systems needing a little time to wear down. It sounds odd! But occasionally plastic pieces are to tight and need several uses before the noise stops. It happened on my Call of Duty console."





Is this for real ??? Of all the electronic devices I have ever bought (43 years old) I have never ran into this ..... I just dont want to sign off on a ticking time bomb !!!! [View:]

Not sure about parts in systems needing time to run in, I really don't understand how they all work etc but watching the video in my opinion that definitely doesn't sound right.

Unless others have experienced the same sort of noise and it went away then fair enough but we have 3 Xbox One's in the house, I have a fair number of other family and friends who own the console and have never heard this sort of clicking noise.

Again and I could be wrong but it doesn't sound right to me.

 

there is a gear that helps the disc load in and out.. it is a small piece of plastic... it might get a little mis aligned during a rough shipping.. power down.. unplug.. flip console upside down and try tapping the case where the disc drive is... plug back
in and power back up.. SOMETIMES... and I mean SOMETIMES it will jar that gear back in place

That isn't the blue ray drive that sounds more like the hard drive making the noise.

 

Clicking is only normal if the console is trying to communicate with dolphins. After 4 hours of use, I would have taken it back for a new one. Would never have settled for refurbished.

Yeah that is broken get a replacement. Either the optical drive, hard dive, or fan is broken/about to completely fail. Sounds to me like either the HDD or fan since I have heard those death clicks before.

Wear down to completely broken is what's going to happen if you take that advice.

 

Sounds more like a car idling. I'd follow everyone's advice and get a replacement ASAP.

 

This clicking was on the first power up out of the box. Not while trying to load a disc. It did it for about 10 minutes then I powered down. On 2nd power up it clicked again for about 4 minutes then stopped. I have not even set the console up yet for use.
This is the point I contacted CS and was sent the reply I first posted. I could not return the original console as the special editions were sold out in stores & out of stock at Microsoft. I do not believe there are any new ones anywhere at this point. Refurbished
is not what I wanted but if I want this console I don't have a choice right now.

 

yeah if that is the case.. it is not the gear... I would bring it directly to a MS store...with all paperwork and claim numbers you have and walk out with a new one... forget that mailing it back and forth

 

that is the cooling fan that is misaligned, send it back immediately, it will run perfectly fine but the noise will drive you insane, if it is not misaligned then something is catching the fan, shine a torch through the vents at the fan when off and see
if you can see anything catching the fan.

 

I was expecting to hear the quiet ticking of a slightly out of balance fan when I watched the video, but *** - that is making a lot of noise. I would absolutely get that replaced, cos you can't be expected to put up with that. I wouldn't buy the "plastic
parts need to wear in argument", lol.

 

I used to have to hit mine on the bottom but mine was BD messing up that sounds like the cooling fan is hitting a wire or the heatsink.
