X1X - PSE Turning itself off

Hi All,

I Have had my Project Scorpio edition X1X since launch day and its been mostly fine up to last night.

When I say "mostly" fine, there has been one issue. The day after I got it, I played it for an hour or so and turned it off. When I cam back home, I went to play it again to find that it wouldn't turn on. I Looked it up and found something from Xbox support
to say that it could just be that the power supply needs a reboot, So I did the required actions and it has been fine since.

However, over the past week I have noticed that my console doesn't seem to turn on when i turn my controller on like it used to/ should.

Last night, I went to play the Project Cars 2 demo and the console just turned itself off. Tried it again, same thing happened. Tried it a third time and the same thing happened again. I Started to think that it could be that demo that's causing it so I tried
Battlefront 2, this time the same thing happened but it took a little longer. I was actually able to get into a game, even if it was only for a matter of a minute or two.

I Then tried the power supply thing again and tried Battlefield 4 but the same thing happened but this time it was a little longer, I was able to run around for a few minutes.

The console is in a very well ventilated area and isn't getting hot at all. Its barely warm and my console is only set to turn itself off after an hour of inactivity and it certainly isn't sitting idle for anywhere near that.

At this point I gave up but I then read something online about a person having their colour space settings on the console set to something their TV doesn't support. They had it set to 10-bit when the TV was only an 8-bit panel and when they changed it to
suit their TV, the console no longer powered itself off. I Went straight back to my console to try this. It wouldn't explain why the console has been fine up to now since launch but I was keen to find a solution. I Have a Samsung KS7000 which has a 10-bit
panel so I made sure that my colour space setting matched this. However, I booted up Battlefront 2 again and it only lasted until the loading screen for a match before shutting off.

The console doesn't just cut out either, it actually plays the power down chime when it happens. Almost like someone is pushing the button to turn it off.

The other thing is that the console doesn't seem to stay in instant-on mode. Things seem to download while its off like normal but when you go to power it up, it doesn't just come on like it (and my old One S) used to, I now have to sit through the power
up animations and sit with the Xbox One logo on my screen for a good amount of time like when you boot it up from new or when its in energy saver mode.

One last thing, I was getting ready to box up my console this morning but thought I would try it again. I was able to get a whole match of Battlefront 2 and 2-3 races on the Project Cars 2 demo without it powering itself down!? I Still had to sit through
the start up sequence despite the console being set to "instant-on" and it wouldn't turn on via the controller still.

Has anyone else had this? Know of a fix? Am I being stupid and doing something wrong? Or do I have to admit defeat and return it?

The issue is that I bought it from Game (in the UK) and if they cant see the fault happen in front of them when they test it, they wont replace it.

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks. Shortly after posting I called Xbox support and got a repair request and shipped out my power brick same day

Hey Loodychris! Sorry to hear about the issues you've been having with the One X. Is the console plugged directly in to a wall out let or are you using a powerstrip? Additionally, is the console sitting vertical or horizontal? Post back and let us know!

I'm assuming you are consulting around your xbox side (not wiring) but I will try and help with both methods.

Xbox Side:

Check if you have any power settings which may tell the xbox to turn off after so long.

If there is the disable it.

If there isn't then if your account is a child account check if the family timer is enabled - if so disable that.

Wiring Side:

Ensure your cables aren't stretching by dangling a major distance, if so this could be pulling the cable.

If this is not the issue then check the wire is in correctly.

Finally if it's non of these errors and you still have xbox warranty please contact Xbox Support.

I had this issue. It was a simple plug being loose in my brick.

Have you checked the power supply case to see if the light changes colour or if their is any loose wiring?

PS4 got a patch to support HDR - so in itself HDR is not tied to a resolution.

But X1/X1S being so much weaker console, 1.3TF vs 1.8TF, one wonder if HDR require more from rendering engine for games will allow it - unless X1X.

X1/X1S already run many games as 900p to manage the load and keep framerate.

They removed Snap feature, which probably take away power from the game itself - was that because it jeapardize stability?

X1X will be able to run games prettier in 1080p than X1/X1S - if developers care enough about it.

Some visual enhancements like on PC could also be managed by X1X.

But here is where the big IF comes - not much happend in patching PS4 games to all run Pro enhanced mode.

Will they sell more games because they walk that extra mile and activate more shading stuff on X1X - don't think they bother at all.

If we are lucky devs test it enough on X1X to have it no freeze on us while gaming - so both X1, X1S and X1X will be as stable.

The boost mode on PS4 Pro already caused games to do that, and people said they just turned that off again.

PC have more patches due to so different hardware out there - varying graphics cards, processors etc.

So will so different power on same console generation also introduce problems we did not have before?

Devs only have the same amount of time to test things - which platform do they use?
