  1. X1X Game DVR 4K with External HDD capture....How to edit that content?

I can capture up to 1hr worth of content in 4k onto an external HDD. Very cool, but you cannot view this or edit it on a separate PC. If we have to convert the file from what I'm sure is h.265 that is an massive time consuming solution that can take half
of a day for 1hr of content for somewhat lossless video.

Meanwhile 1080p/30 works really well.. What about 1080p/60? We have 4k/60 with HDR, but no 1080/60?

Real head scratcher here and I'd like to know if i'm missing anything.

    Thanks,

    Bob

    :)

Not recording games before Upload Studio can edit 4k HDR Game DVR from external HDD!

Still waiting for Microsoft to further improve the Game DVR features on XBox One X. Most important is to upgrade Upload Studio to edit 4k HDR Game DVR from EXTERNAL HDD, instead of having to disconnect the external HDD, edit it on PC, then plug it back again. That's
just stupid, as the XBox One X should be able to handle all that. Have Upload Studio to support unlimited 4k HDR Game DVR from external HDD, up to 1 hour, and being able to share it with XBox Live, Facebook, OneDrive, Twitter and YouTube.

The new YouTube app for XBox One X (awaiting HDR-support) now supports 4k video clips, so it should be possible to upload 4k Game DVR to it. But I want to edit them in Upload Studio, then bring them up to XBox Live and YouTube.

I WON'T record Game DVRs BEFORE Microsoft have updated the Game DVR features further on XBox One X, and updated Upload Studio to edit 4k HDR Game DVR stored on EXTERNAL HDD, up to 1 hour. It should be fairly simple to provide such support!

It's time to do that NOW. No more waiting...Get it done, then we all can have a good day!

  3. Can I store Game DVR footage on to an external drive and edit it on my computer?

Just curious, my Capture card does not have HDMI so I can't use it on my Xbox One, is it possible to just store game DVR footage on a thumb drive/ external HDD and then edit it on my computer, and if so, how? I do not want to edit it on the Xbox one, It'd
have to be done on my computer.

    Game Capture using PVR

That's the built in DVR @geek. I use my own capture and computer and editing program's, and store gameplay on a different HDD. The built in DVR will be very limited.

    Backup gaming clips

    Hello Kursaalflyer,

Thank you for your quick response.

It appears that the capture location for your external drive is saved to GameDVR folder and XboxCapture copies folder. When copying multiple copies it goes directly to Xbox Capture Copies folder while captures clip is directly saved to GameDVR folder.

The GameDVR folder in external storage is a folder that contains the game clips and screenshots that you have recorded using the Xbox Game DVR feature on your console. The Game DVR feature allows you to capture your gameplay moments and share them with your friends or on social media. After recording clips, your external drive can now be plugged into a PC, where the traditional video files can be extracted. This essentially turns your console into a simple capture card, allowing recordings to be locally transferred for use in PC-based editing software. All files created by Game DVR can be found under the "Game DVR" folder automatically created on your drive.

The Xbox capture copies folder in external drive is a folder that contains the copies of the game clips and screenshots that you have recorded using the Xbox Game DVR feature on your console and then transferred to your external drive. The Xbox Game DVR feature allows you to capture your gameplay moments and share them with your friends or on social media. By transferring your game captures to an external drive, you can save space on your internal drive, backup your captures, and access them on other devices.

You can edit both the files saved on the GameDVR folder and the Xbox capture copies folder using PC editing tools. The difference is that the files on the GameDVR folder are the ones that you have recorded directly to your external drive by setting it as your capture location, while the files on the Xbox capture copies folder are the ones that you have copied or moved from your internal drive to your external drive. Both folders contain the same type of files, which are MP4 video files for game clips and PNG image files for screenshots.

We look forward to your response. Kindly let us know, if there is any misunderstanding or clarifications of our description by sending us a reply.

You need an external capture device in order to record your Console. The footage would then be stored on your computer/laptop's HDD.
