  1. X1 external hard drive failure. Please HELP!!!

Hey folks I am in dire need of advice. I bought the Western Digital My Book 4TB from amazon. I took it out the box and hooked it up to the xbox. No problems it detected it right away and formatted it for use. Then I went ahead and moved all my games from
my internal hard drive to my external. Again no problems games were playable. So I went ahead and started downloading all the games I had in the cloud to my external. I had 19 games to install. No issues while downloading. After I saw that everything was going
good I went ahead and powered down my xbox. Then when coming back later to check on progress my external hard drive was no longer detected.

    Possible issues found:

The instant on feature is enabled. The only thing I noticed is the box for "when Xbox is off, turn off storage" was checked. Unchecked it and soft booted, hard booted the xbox, and did a power plug pull. Didn't fix it.

There was a system update from the preview program that occurred before installing the hard drive.

Tried a know good usb 3.0 cable that works on different hard drives. Still no good.

Connected it to my laptop and it wasn't showing up in my computer. Checked device manager and it showed up in there as no drivers installed and wouldn't work. Tried it in 3.0 and 2.0 usb slots.

I am tempted to do a factory rest from the xbox settings menu. But I have a feeling its more of an issue with the hard drive.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

  2. hard drive

As an idea for xbox one hard drives because they are internal and not external try plugging in an external drive to save or transfer all important games to external hard drive and leave not so important games onto internal drive
that way you can take them anywhere and not have hard drive failures with xbox one.

The hard drive in the X1 is 5400rpm, so yes, a 5400rpm external hard drive will work fine.

    Hey there,

Thanks for posting! This is definitely an odd one, but it looks like you have included the steps we would normally recommend. The next best step will be to check in with Seagate to see if they have additional steps to try, or attempt using the tools mention
on that page. Additionally, perhaps try trading spots with games that do exhibit weird issues with other games on your internal to see if that helps in the long run. If games do take too long to start, that may indicate a read speed issue.

Hope this helps, keep us posted if those Seagate tools help out!
