    I just got an Xbox for my kids and this has been the stupidest most ridiculous experience TRYING to play a video game! First I couldn't play without installing a bunch of updates to the console. Then I couldn't play because when I inserted the game (FIFA 23) it also needed to install a bunch of updates. This may not be a problem for a lot of people but for me it is. My internet service is through a mobile hotspot and not 5G.

    Welcome to what's become the norm for gaming. Not just xbox. All consoles require big updates like this these days. Best get used to it.

    You need to update regardless

    As mentioned the disks haven't caught up with capacity of games

    Some games like FIFA or cod are 100 gigs and up to install

    And you have to remember discs are 50gigs max

    If you don't want to download 100s of gigs you best stick with old consoles

    Modern consoles require day one updates and install which includes online patches

    This includes.xbox one and ps4

    Ps3 did too to reduce load times because of bluray and the games getting bigger

    Xbox 360 not.so much because they were dvds

    Even the switch requires.online updates

    Mobile hotspots arent thr greatest.way to connect or play

    Maybe for.small.updates.or patches but.if you are installing.full.games it's too costly and would.be very very slow you would-be lucky if it doesn't.time.out.and have.to.restart again because of.corruption

    I'm sorry but modern games all require updates, no matter what platform they are on.

    You should be aware that discs, particuarly of AAA titles like Call of Duty or FIFA don't always contain the complete playable game, as they are pressed before it's ready.

    While allegedly additional disc capacity is coming back online (we have 1 plant where there used to be 6 majors), this will take some time, and there is no guarantee the situation will improve.

    If this is an issue I suggest bringing your Xbox to a friend's house who has wired internet and is willing to let you use it.
