    X|S games on external storage


    Hey Everyone, So basically I recently bought a hard drive for my Xbox series S, and then figure out most of my games are the enhanced version of the game and I can’t play them off the hard drive I can only play it off the internal hard drive or the seagate card which is to expensive, just wondering if their are any other options X|S games on external storage :)

    It depends on what you use as external storage. If you get a regular hard drive or SSD, then any Series S/X optimized games will still need to be moved to the internal storage to play them (Older games can be stored and played from the external drive). If you want to store and play Series S/X optimized games on external storage, you would need on of the expansion cards that were created for the console.

    Thank you for the quick reply. Any plans on when it can be configurable ?
    I'm afraid it won't ever be 'configurable'. The real reason why your games can't be downloaded to the external drive is because you can't actually run Series X|S games from an external drive.

    External hard drives are far too slow to run Series X|S games. They need to be run either from the internal drive - which is a fast NVME SSD - or the optional memory expansion cards for the Series X|S consoles. Not even SATA based external SSD's are considered fast enough for X|S games.

    You can move Series X|S games for archive purposes to copy back to these faster storage locations to play, but you can't run Series X|S games from external storage.

    Games that have not been optimised for Series X|S have no such limitations.

    Not sure why the 'Independent Advisor' doesn't know this well known fact.

    Hi,

    Yes you can use it. You can use any external storage that the Xbox One supported on the Series X and S. However, external storage can only be used to play Xbox One games and BC Xbox 360 and original Xbox games.

    Series X and S titles need to be run either from the internal SSD or the optional expansion card.
