X-Box won't install games on any drive in Windows 11 home

Actually, I was able to get the settings options to repair and reset by right clicking on the Xbox Icon in my start menu. Since, I have windows 11, the closest option in Windows Settings is "Games". There is no Gaming Services in Windows Settings and it also lacks the options to repair or reset. Anyway, I was able to resolve most of the issues by resetting through the settings on the Xbox Icon. It still won't allow me to install games on my USB 3 attached external games drive. Yet, every other game app like Steam, Epic Games, Battle Net and Origin I own do. It's really strange.

Hi, I've just had this same issue, and with no idea why this error popped up, I contacted Microsoft support and a support agent got the app to work for me, I followed these steps.

How to fix the error in the Xbox app when you can’t install or choose a drive or different drive from where you’d like to download/install a game



Open: - “registry editor” and go to this path: -



Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\xinputhid



and delete the two folders: - “parameters” – “state” -

now close regedit, and open up the "settings app", and go to "app's" - "installed apps" - "search apps" - enter "xbox" - now click on the three dots and click on "advanced options" - now click on "terminate" now once that's done click on "repair" - once that's done - click on "reset" - open the xbox app again and see if you can now select which drive to install you're game onto, apprarently this is a bug within Windows 11.

Hello AbyssmalShade, have you checked if you have the latest version of Windows installed, at 21H2, because recently came out the latest update to Windows 10 and 11.

Updates often seen as optional, Microsoft released major fixes this week, and make sure you have the Xbox Companion App installed.

If you haven't updated yet, click the link below, update and then make all subsequent security updates.

Also make sure all Xbox Apps are up to date in the store, and make sure you have the Xbox Companion App installed, it works with the Xbox App.

If not works, try this.

Go to windows settings > apps > search for gaming services app > click on it and select advanced ptions.

After that, click repair and then restore, open the app and try again.

Then do the same for the Xbox app:

Then, try to uninstall and install the Xbox app.

If it still doesn't work you're going to uninstall the games services using a powershell command.

In the windows search bar type Powershell > Right click and select open as administrator > Type the command: "get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-Appxpackage –allusers" > Wait for the process to finish and then restart the PC, then open your Xbox gamepass app, it will ask you to install the gaming services again, install it and try again.

Then, after you do it, you're going to open the game pass app, it will ask you to download and install the game services again

It's just like that, I'm having the same issue, I've formatted the drive, and a fresh windows 11 installation, any game from game pass won't launch.

I'm not downloading any games on my C drive, I download it on my F drive.
