X Box One X Connected to 5.1 AV Receiver - Netflix Support

I have my Xbox One X connected to a Yamaha 5.1 AV receiver.

What should i set my Xbox audio settings to.

If i select uncompressed 5.1, Netflix converts original 5.1 DD to 5.1 PCM

If I select Bitstream DTS, Netflix converts 5.1 DD to 5.1 DTS

If i select Bitstream DD will Netflix send 5.1 DD as is or decode and re encode before outputting to receiver.

The audio settings you should use depends on your equipment. I recommend looking through the User Manuals of the equipment involved to check to see what specifications it can reach. Do you notice a difference in sound quality while testing different settings?
Do any of the options leave the console with no sound at all? Give us a bit more information about this situation to best determine how to assist you.

Thanks for your question, unfortunately, there are not any sources for the information you are requesting. From what the Xbox One X is capable of, it's more than likely the audio coming from Netflix would unchanged.

Thank you for your replies.

However my question is:

Netflix movies are encoded in Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.

If i select Bitstream out, Dolby Digital format in Xbox One X settings, will this pass the Netflix audio unchanged?

Or will it be decoded and re-encoded before sending via bitstream to AV receiver?

If this is the case it may be better to send audio uncompressed PCM 5.1, AV receiver can handle it.

I have asked three Microsoft support agents this question, none have bern able to answer it.

Hi,

I'm having a very similar problem (SkyQ to X-box one via HDMI and then audio from X-box to Cambridge Audio AV Receiver [too old for HDMI] via optical).

My AV Receiver detects the incoming Dolby but reports only two channels (no centre speaker and no surround speakers).

I've tried all sorts and now suspect that this is perhaps caused by some digital rights management issues with optical not being able to support the DRM.

I am waiting on receiving an HDMI-optical converter and will post if this fixes the problem.
