X Box One S console frozen during game update

The console is frozen during a game update on my brother's X Box One S. turning the console off and back on did not help. Only the frozen update screen comes on and no other games can be played. After inserting new game, it does not visibly do anything but then a message to the effect 'this is taking too long" is displayed. Is there a reset button on the console?

Hi Dave631, I hope you're doing great out there despite the issue that you're experiencing. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you in regards to your concern.

Yes, there is. Don't worry because as long as you're connected to Xbox Live your saved progress, games, will not be deleted. It will remove all of your accounts but you can add all of them later on.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info.

Select Reset console.

Reset and keep my games & apps.

Also, if you have an External hard drive kindly unplug it then check if the games will work just fine without it. If yes, it may mean that the hard drive is corrupted and you may need to reformat it.

When the console is turned on the frozen screen is the only thing that comes up and none of the controller buttons work.

Kindly try to plug in the controller using a wired cable then follow the steps below:

1. Unplug the network cable if you're using a wired network connection.

2. Power off your console, and then unplug the power cord to ensure that the console is completely powered off.

3. Wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord back in.

4. Press and hold the Pair button (located on the left side of the console) and the Eject button (located on the front of the console), and then press the Xbox button on the console.

5. Continue holding the Pair and Eject buttons for 10-15 seconds.

6. Listen for two “power-up” tones a couple of seconds apart. You can release the Pair and Eject buttons after the second power-up tone.

When the console powers up, you will see the Xbox Startup Troubleshooter. Please click on "Reset this Xbox" then "Reset and keep my games and apps".

I been trying to update x box one s during the last 24 hs and and I cannot make this work. My internet conexion is ok, the x box is new. I need some help with this problem.

Yeah I understand this, but like I said before...all the games are in the external, but for whatever reason is upgrading and updating to the internal.

This behaviour only occurs on Series X|S optimised games and only on the series X|S console.

Basically, if you have an Series X and your Xbox One game has been optimised for the system it will be moved to the faster storage during the update.
