X-Box Live Game Invites is not working

I'm using XBox 360 and when I send an x-box live invite to my on-line friend they are not getting the invite. We ran into this issue earlier this year and it was suggested we reboot the x-box unit (holding the button down for 10 seconds) and that worked
for a while. Now even that option is not working. We can both see each other on-line and we can message each other, but the game invite is not showing up for both of us. We are really missing our x-box game nights - any suggestions?

There were Xbox Live service issues over 'social and gaming' as well as core services tonight. The best thing you can do is monitor the service status or contact support to let them know you're still affected while we wait it out.

Is it possible that your friend has the Invites restricted?

Are both of you playing from Xbox 360 to Xbox 360?

I am having this same problem. I have Sea of Thieves on Steam and on Windows Store/Xbox Live/whatever its called now. When I try to join a game via the X-box Bar, it tries to open it in Steam, and I do not have it currently installed in steam. How do I tell it to use the version that is installed from the Windows Store? It makes no sense, because I can invite an X-box friend to MY game just fine, but when they invite me, trying to accept it makes Steam try to install the game instead.
