Also I believe you have to disclose that you are adverting for a company. And that's also assuming MS is in on it. The article states they have info regarding Machinima doing this, but don't have any proof that MS is in on it (or at least they didn't state
that they did). It's easy to take the cynical route and immediately say that MS was in on it with no proof whatsoever, but that won't fly in a court. It will get tossed out. Regardless of how sorry a company may be, I will not chastise them on something
without proof.

 

I honestly have no idea how you people have made it through life without ever having seen an infomercial. "Testimonials from real people!" "I lost 30lbs in 5 minutes drinking hamster urine!" The whole point of an infomercial is to make you believe that average
guy Joe Schmoe tried out this product, saw results and loved it. When it actuality, it was just was some hobo who was passing by and needed money for whiskey.

Eh, the only guy I watch that's on the Machinima Network is XboxAhoy. I watch very little Youtube people per se.



There's been talk about that non-disclosure clause being illegal and falling under FTC jurisdiction, if they're interested in pursuing it. Me? I see this as plain advertisement. Nothing to be upset or throwing a tantrum about. These guys know better than
not be overtly loving of the Xbox One if they want to be taken seriously.

[/quote]Umm... because its against the law. I honestly don't care. This affects me zero as I make my own decisions. No youtuber is gonna affect my purchasing habits. Its a dirty tactic that im sure a ton of people in a wide range of industries do though.
Heck EA was paying way more than MS for the same types of coverage on their games.

 

Also the article in the op has been updated with responses from MS.

If you were competent enough to read the article you wouldn't need to ask that question.

It's not news because they are using YouTube to advertise. It's news because Machinima and/or Microsoft has possibly violated FTC's guidelines by preventing the content creators from disclosing info on the endorsement.

Its kind of interesting on a mass psychology level to watch all the little Officer Barbradys run into so many threads on these forums yelling "Ok people, move on. Nothing to see here." Although on the show it is funny.
